We will be away for awhile and would like someone to live at the house so that it doesn't look abandoned and people don't rob it.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Let us know is anything needs fixing. Watch out for ant infestations and use a chemical if there is one. Keep a bush near the entrance trimmed so it doesn't overwhelm the entrance. Other minor things.

What are the good features of the property and location

It is in a beautiful area of Costa Rica where there is real Tico culture and at the same time sophisticated restaurants and lots of expats. This house is simple, which helps it blend into the area. For example, we have the traditional 3 burner propane stove instead of a fancy stove. It has a good driveway, though you will have to have four wheel drive so the driveway isn't torn up by spinning wheels, and not allow any guests to drive up unless they have 4 wheel drive. It is in the village, close to the supermarket, but it is up on a hill so it is quiet. There is lots of land with banana and fruit trees. There is no air conditioning, but the house is pretty breezy. But if you don't like it hot, this isn't the place for you. It is completely furnished. The back patio has a lovely breezy valley view. We have a pool but it is not in good repair so it is covered. We would only get it going and have it maintained if someone wanted to pay for that.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

You will be living in a tropical jungle environment where you have to be careful of snakes and insects. We haven't seen a poisonous snake on our property for 15 years, but you can never be sure. In fact, we haven't seen any snakes for at least 10 years. We want the house to be kept clean. There are geckos on the walls like in all the houses - they eat the bugs, but they also leave droppings here and there which you have to wipe up. The stove is propane so you have to go to the store and exchange an empty one for a full one when it is used up.

Can I bring my own pets?
