MindMyHouse News July 2024

by Alan Koeninger

Dear MindMyHousies, In another special edition of our irregular newsletter, we feature three new amazing pets whom we spotted on MindMyHouse – Moose, Juno, and Teddy. We think they are very special – we hope you do too. Also, we add Emoji’s to testimonials, we’ve reached a milestone – One million messages via MMH, and lastly we increase message sending limits. Hurrah.

Amazing pets (Animaux incroyables) – part two

A little known fact is that here at MindMyHouse, we review all ‘sitter wanted’ listings that are published, every day of the year. We check things like the dates are correct, pets are listed, check the photos etc. One thing that always stands out for us are all those cute photos of home owner pets! So adorable! This is our second featured installment where we feature some of these amazing pets in our newsletter. Introducing the talented Moose, Juno and Teddy!

Featuring…Moose (in a box)

Location: Oregon, United States
Family/genus/species: English Bulldog
Special powers: Makes a lot of alien noises (play the video, sound UP!)
Unique attribute: Loves to ‘sort’ the mail
Favourite food: Bananas and yoghurt

Meet Moose, the lovely bulldog who loves boxes and also loves to ‘sort’ the mail. He makes a lot of alien noises – see the attached video clip for a classic example of this and him in a box – sound UP!!!

Some quick facts:

  • Always knows when the mail is delivered or a package is left, and is very eager for these things to be brought inside right away.
  • He loves cardboard boxes and breaks them down by tearing them into pieces.
  • If they are large enough, he loves to sit or lie inside, and he loves to carry them around even though sometimes he gets stuck. (See picture).
  • He also loves to “sort the mail” by shredding up whatever unwanted junk mail.
  • He loves to “sunbathe” and will lie in the sun for hours until his head and ears start to turn pink.
  • Once his owners tried to take him on a camping trip and he could not understand why they were sleeping outside. There were not nearly enough pillows for him and he complained the whole time. Had to use cheeseburgers to coax him to get in and out of the car between stops on the camping trip because he became very stubborn and just wanted to go home.
  • A requirement for his nap nests is that he has to be able to tuck his nose under something— he doesn’t like to sleep without his nose tucked in.
  • Weekday mornings around 10 am, he does his stretching routine by rolling around on his back while also making alien noises.

Introducing…Juno

Location: Seoul, South Korea
Family/genus/species: Unknown but we suspect she’s an American/British Shorthair
Age: 16 years old
Special Powers: Being a cuddle bug and liking everyone
Unique attribute: Loves to talk
Favourite Food: Pureed snacks from the tube

Juno definitely puts out ‘relaxed’ vibes, and loves people and loves cuddles even more. In her senior years now, her origin story is that she was rescued by a volunteer at a very young age, possibly abandoned or ran away and found on the mean streets. We are very happy that she found her forever home with her owner, and that she’s well loved.

Fun facts:

  • Her favourite sleeping spot changes every few weeks.
  • Can understand Korean!
  • She has a feather toy on a string that she likes to chase on the bed, but as she is senior now, it’s just for a minute or two.
  • She is doing well, and making the most of her senior years.

Featuring…Teddy

  • Location: County Limerick, Ireland
  • Family/genus/species: Red setter Retriever Cross
  • Age: One & a half years old (just a pupper)
  • Special powers: has garnered more testimonials from house sitters than his owner!
  • Special nickname: V.I.D (ie. Very Important Dog)
  • Favourite treat: The juice in the bottom of the meat tray

Teddy is a very special guy, cherished by his whole family and anyone else who meets him (including the many house sitters who have left glowing testimonials for him on MindMyHouse). Teddy has a big heart who loves company, and truly brings joy to people. I mean, just look at those magical, red ruffles on his chest! He is also a bit of a scaredy dog, but has come on leaps and bounds since he arrived at his forever home Ireland at the wee age 7 months. His owner says “Our lives are so much richer with Teddy in it”. We can’t help but say ‘awwwww’ and agree!

Fun facts

  • Always shares his treats with his feathered friends (the hens)
  • Loves a fun game of tug of war with a toilet roll (until it breaks into small pieces)
  • Loves to stop, sit & watch other animals (horses, chickens, cows)
  • Loves a game of grab and dodge my towel (Is that a game? Sounds fun!)
  • Loves to bury and hide the bone from the butcher – then two days later he’ll find it again and he’ll be seen running around the house with his hen buddies right behind him!!!
