About this sitter

We are a 59 year old couple from northern Canada (Whitehorse, Yukon). In 2011 we decided it was time to get out and experience life in other lands... so, we each sold our homes and nearly all our possessions... and set off travelling for 8 months in S.E. Asia.
We then returned to Canada to visit friends, family and to replenish the bank account working at a Potash Mine in Central Canada. 10 months of that was enough to know that we needed more than just a fat paycheque. We headed south to Belize, Central America and purchased a house and property in a tiny little village on the peninsula. We spent 14 months there, transforming the barren sandy lot into a lush garden, and building additional rental units and a pool. Since then we have secured the services of a property manager, which has allowed us to come travelling in SE Asia again. This time round we have been housesitting... which has been so much better, seeing places and living in residential areas... in a home environment, (usually with pets).
We love the concept of Workaway and are members of Trusted housesitters, our schedule has been quite full. Our first housesit was in December 2014, and to date, plus the confirmed sits we have coming up, the list includes:
- Langkawi, Malaysia: Looking after an older dog (with separation anxiety), two lovely rescue cats and 4 wild dogs which the owner fed to discourage the monkeys from coming into the kitchen...We also had some other responsibilities there... chauffeuring and cooking for the guests staying over the Christmas holiday, and prepping rooms for their arrival. (the home was an Air BnB business). Pool maintenance, yard cleanup, etc.

We are both non-smokers and Bob is a non-drinker... I enjoy a glass or two of wine from time to time.
Bob is an electrician and very handy around the property, fixing appliances, plumbing issues, etc. Bob also has experience with generators, solar, inverters and pumps including pools and troubleshooting multiple pieces of equipment. Very handy on a vessel or any facilities requiring maintenance. We had very limited resources in Belize, so we did most things ourselves. We both have a passion for tropical plants as well. After spending a year and a half in Belize, we are familiar tropical climates, things to expect, good and bad... rainy season or hot & dry, and we both have a passion for tropical plants. As well as the above mentioned things we do, Bob is an Emergency Medical Responder and can apply the essence of critical first Aid treatment wherever we go.
Bob has also completed his TEFL 'Teaching English as a Foreign Language as well as his Business English, and lastly he has his Teaching English to Youth certificates. Along with teaching he Is also an EMR Emergency Medical Responder. So perhaps we bring a little of everything with us.
We are very clean, tidy, considerate and responsible.

Our skills are varied in many ways. Kathy background is contracts and procurement as her profession, her passion is landscape and garden. Her flare for colour and vast outdoor ideas has helped in the past with a project in Belize. Animals and their care is another passion, hard to put cats down, a real cat lover. Many labouring tasks, such as painting, decorating a room, yard work, gets all done right.
Bob is an electrician by trade, plumber, carpenter, generator repairs and troubleshooting ,and solar panel installations are a few things we do. Ask if you look for advice as well. Bob is also , Business English, TEFL, and CETYL (Certified English Teacher to Young Learners) certified so would more than entertain helping with English teaching. We bring with us Emergency Medical First Aid as well. Our passion for travel has obtained for us a fairly high degree of experience in the expat world when it comes to many do's and don't to provide an experienced travellers point of view and recommendation.
Much of our sitting experiences have been on Trusted house sitters and multiple reviews with several call backs to sit. During the time when the world went upside down during lockdowns we of course could not pursue many offers. We did sit locally during that time however.

We are eager to travel and see new places, living in the neighborhoods, rather than in hotels... so we can experience real life in the country. We both LOVE animals.... cats and dogs in particular, so we would be thrilled if that was part of the package.

During our time housesitting in SE Asia, we were so fortunate to have so many experiences, right from our first, looking after a B&B in Malaysia over Christmas... to a lovely home on the banks of the Mekong in Laos..., Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand... they were all so great! Central America in the mountains of Panama...great sit!
We got 5 star reviews from all the homeowners, did repeat sits during that time, and made some great friends that we remain in contact with. We are clean, respectful, and eager to take on whatever tasks might need doing around the home. (We have learned we need to keep ourselves busy) We are also somewhat homebodies, so would spend a lot of time with your pets. Bob is an electrician by trade, and very handy around the home. He is also an Emergency Medical Responder, so we bring a little help in the neighborhood if needed.
We are familiar with chemical and saltwater pool maintenance, B&B guest services, gardening and yard work, and as I mentioned... we love animals. Our experience has been mainly on Trustedhousesitters, unfortunately when covid hit we all were impacted with travel restrictions. We are now here to help you travel.
