About this sitter
Tom and Mary are a responsible couple looking for short or long-term house sitting opportunities all over the globe. Mary is a retired yoga teacher, an artist and freelance writer. Tom is recently retired from a long career at UC Berkeley. He is also a writer, naturalist, photographer and great storyteller. Together we are traveling the world in search of adventure and our next place to settle down.
Why they want to house sit
We are recently retired and are in travel mode for an extended period. We are also looking for the next place we want to eventually put down roots after 37 years in the San Francisco Bay Area. House sitting is a great way to explore our options and get to know local communities!
Their experience
We have both house sat for friends and family as well as cared for their pets. We love animals but because we are traveling are not able to have our own right now. The opportunity to be "Auntie and Uncle" to our friends' pets is very fulfilling. Whether you have pets or not, we are fine to care for your home as if it were our own, with or without animal companions. Please note: in addition to completed assignments, we had 2 long term house/pet sitting assignments scheduled that were canceled due to Covid 19.
What can they bring to the assignment
We are friendly and joyful, responsible and mature, clean and organized, domestic and respectful. We love animals and nature, enjoy gardening, hiking and biking, keeping active and fit and connecting with local community. We don't have pets or children. We are non-smokers. Having been on the road for quite some time has sharpened our ability to think fast on our feet, problem solve, and trouble shoot. We are a great team!

I heartily recommend Tom and Mary McGuire as dog and house sitters! They are both dependable and good people. Tom and Mary were long-term house and dog sitters at our home in Colorado Springs from June 2021 to April 2022. Our family of four traveled overseas for the school year, and I will say the best gift while traveling is to know that everything at the house was taken care of and there was nothing on the other side of the pond I had to worry about. That worry-free attitude is because Tom and Mary were there and proved again and again that they could handle any situation that arose. From our back slab cracking and needing to be replaced, to a water drip under the sink, to watering new baby trees in the yard, and my many house plants, they were on it. Our two large dogs were walked twice a day at least, hiking across the region, taken for their annual veterinary appointments, and genuinely loved and cared for. Tom and Mary were very good at keeping in touch and posting photos and videos, especially for the kids to see how their dogs were doing while away. I highly encourage you to look no further and contact Tom and Mary for your home and pets while you are traveling.

Awesome pet and home minders!
Tom and Mary took care of our 8 year old mini labradoodle for 3 weeks while we traveled internationally. Our dog injured herself 10 days before we left and I actually wondered if I should cancel the trip as she would require some extra care. As soon as I met Tom and Mary I knew she would be just fine. They lavished love and care upon her, took all the precautions I requested, followed protocols and checked in consistently with me to ask question or update me. They just could not have done a better job of caring for her and I am very grateful. Of course they also took excellent care of our home, and left it clean and organized. I highly recommend Tom and Mary, should you be lucky enough to to get them to mind your pets and home!

Tom and Mary got along great with my somewhat shy Aussie and my border collie. The dogs and cat enjoyed lots of attention and long walks. Tom kept in touch during the Housesit and sent lots of fun pictures. Nice to come home to animals that are not stressed out and enjoyed their stay.
