About this sitter
We are a recently retired New Zealand couple looking for the opportunity to travel during our New Zealand winters. We will consider any opportunities that are presented to us. I am a retired school teacher who spent the last 3 years doing maintenance work at a chemical plant, and my wife Christine worked at various jobs during her career. We own our home in Papamoa, Tauranga, in the beautiful Bay of Plenty region, New Zealand.
Why they want to house sit
We want to be able to explore different parts of the world, and escape the New Zealand winter. House sitting will give us the opportunity to explore regions more in depth, experience different cultures and save money while doing so.
Their experience
In July 2019 we house sat a friends property on the Gold Coast, Queensland while she went off on a four week holiday in South America. With her permission, we replanted some garden areas, repaired her fence and replaced a blind as well as keeping the lawns and palms tidy.
In 2024 we spent the month of May at Chateau Le Mur in Brittany France. During this period we worked 25 hours a week each doing housekeeping, gardening, property maintenance, and keeping apartments in the Manoir ready for guests.
What can they bring to the assignment
We both enjoy gardening, and keeping our property in good order. My experience doing 3 years maintenance work could be helpful. We enjoy meeting new people and taking care of animals.

Neil and Christine!!! An AMAZING couple— Exceptional in everything they did!
Neil and Chris!! What a happy, fun, yet hard working couple! Neil spent the days planting trees, seeding a HUGE field, finding things to fix!—Both Neil and Chris were happy to do anything we asked! These two are smart, know a lot about gardening, and were determined to do an excellent job in everything they touched! Neil and Christine came to our place along with brother-in-law Michael and Christine's sister Trish. The four of them worked together fabulously, caring for our property as if it were their own! Having them on site working alongside us was truly a joy! These four individuals were one of the best Caretaking teams we have ever had!!! To name just a few of the tasks they helped us with (everything they did was exceptional!) include: They did a wonderful job helping us renovate 'The Fairy Room' within the Chateau, stripping wall paper, resurfacing walls, adding a chair rail as well as literally bringing a 'sparkle' to the paint job they did in the room. The dream team was not afraid to take on painting, flooring, and problem solving!! These four were SO into gardening we couldn’t get them to stop! They loved making everything look so clean and tidy! They must have removed about a million weeds!! (we can still see Christine on her hands and knees wrestling every weed from the ground!!! ), planting flowers, organizing rocks for attractive boundaries— then when we were out running errands they all four pitched in and blessed us by cleaning the Chateau! – (The Chateau has never been this clean in years!) These four were so meticulous, full of energy, and loved to laugh. Neil and Chris worked more than we ever expected or asked for, were willing to do whatever was needed to solve problems and issues and at the same time, were extremely respectful, polite, and helpful. Having Neil, Chris, Mike and Trish with us was one of the most enjoyable times we have ever had at Le Mur! We would welcome them back ANYTIME whether we are on-site or not! Thanks again and again Neil and Christine for blessing us so much at Chateau/Manoir du Mur!
