Hi there! If you're anything like me then the last thing you want to worry about when you're away from home is home. You've got enough to manage uprooting your own life, between transportation, hotels or finishing that presentation for the conference. No one wants to also deal with getting a sad pup to the boarders or cancelling Amazon subscription deliveries on top of that.
Whether you've got pets, plants or a leaky faucet that needs the bucket under it changed until you have time to call a plumber, I promise I've had to fret about all those things too.
I'm at 47-year-old professional woman who has lived and worked all over the DC/Baltimore area since 2006. (I am originally from Buffalo, NY though, so if snow becomes an issue, I keep salt and a shovel in my car all winter. Force of habit.) I am employed full time in communications at a university in Baltimore and work part-time as a freelance writer and editor. My long-time partner and I currently live in a small house in the County with our feisty terrier, Stella.
Let's call this a mutually beneficial arrangement...
Not to get too personal but 2 years ago, my partner's teenage daughter had to come live with us under some intense circumstances. We were already a bit cramped before she came but we mostly made it work. Except in September, my partner was picked to head up a new, remote department for the hospital system he works for.
I currently work remotely 4 out of 5 days a week, usually from 8-5, then catch up on freelance writing in the evening.
He works from 2-11, usually 6 days a week, plus serving as a lead has him on call A LOT. And we have one workstation. In one room.
You can do the math... but the short of it is, she's in high school so we can't make any changes to our home base until Summer 2026.
So now, my unconventional mid-life crisis is your gain!
My house and pet sitting circle has been limited to friends and family. I treat their homes and pets even better than I do my own so as not to invite any unecessary conflict. I've dealt with everything from dogs that can't hold their bowels to cats that can't hold their dinner to frozen pipes that couldn't hold their water. (That's one for the storybooks!)
I have been taking care of my own homes for 25 years. I am mature, responsible, and far too old to go to house parties, much less throw them. I am clean, organized, and oddly particular about which utensils go where and how my towels are folded. I still rinse and sort my recycling, and my father was a chef, so I clean as I go in the kitchen. And like a giant sucker, I let my dog determine how and where I sleep in my own bed.
There isn't much I won't do to take care of your home because there isn't much I don't do to take care of my own. (I didn't make up that leak bucket out of thin air...) I prefer to have written instructions since I’m a checklist kind of person, but I’m also happy to take notes and create my own. Bottom line, I am flexible and adaptable and happy to respect your house rules the same as I hope mine get respected.
I’m here to help when you’re ready!
