About this assignment

We’re looking for a reliable, animal loving person (or couple) to look after our home from 27th October until 15th November 2024. We live in a Cotswold village on the edge of the Cotswold Water Park with good public transport links to nearby Cirencester, Cheltenham and Swindon. London is 1 hour 15 mins by train. We have a Bulgarian rescue dog called Dolly (a medium sized hound), an Portugese rescue (a Shiba Inu type) and a rather aloof tortoiseshell cat called Minnie We have a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroomed house with a lovely garden. The village has a great country pub, a village shop and a very old Norman church and one of Europe’s oldest tythe barns. There are lots of lovely walks nearby.Unfortunately we are not able to consider a house sitter with children as the dogs are unused to having children around the house.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

The primary responsibility is to care for our two dogs, walk them daily, feed them and give them lots of cuddles. The cat spends most of her time outside, only coming in to eat and sleep.

What are the good features of the property and location

The house has a large well equipped kitchen with a large circular table. There is one downstairs bedroom and a bathroom, then two further bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. The cottage garden is very peaceful with a special gin and tonic spot at the bottom which catches the last of the evening sun. There is a summer house where you can sit out and listen to the birdsong (during summer months). The village pub is a five minute walk away and shop is even closer. A bus stop across the road will take you into Cirencester where you can visit the old Roman Amphitheater, the Roman museum or just wander around the market stalls and have a coffee in one of the many cafes. From Cirencester you can easily explore lovely Cotswold villages such as Bibury and Bourton on the Water.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

They need to like dogs! The security of our home is important so they need to make sure that the alarm is set when they are out and the property is secured when they are not in it. If they are able to water hanging baskets and tubs that would be great (Summer months).

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

In the Cotswolds with Dolly, Minnie, & Pimenta

My stay at Graham & Andrea's place was very cozy and comfortable. They live in a quaint village near the town of Cirencester which offers you all that one could need in terms of supermarkets, restaurants, shops, parks, all within a beautiful town of old stone buildings and walkable in just 30 minutes. Graham & Andrea warmly welcomed me and showed me all I needed to know. They were very kind and hospitable and answered all my questions. Graham drove me into Cirencester town to show me around & get some groceries & I really appreciated that also. Their fur babies: Minnie was a sweet outdoor cat who enjoyed being fed & the occasional pet. She loved asking for more food & at night coming inside for some extra snacks. Pimenta and Dolly were loving, energetic dogs who enjoyed going outside to sniff around in the garden. Our morning walks were along nature trails, which were lovely and the area is so peaceful. Dolly & Pimenta also loved their eating times, Dolly especially liked to start making noises showing she was ready to eat haha!! They were entertaining & Pimenta loved her belly scratches. I enjoyed my time in the Cotswolds and was able to visit some of the nearby villages. The neighbors were also very friendly and overall my time there was delightful 😊 Thank you Andrea & Graham!!

Fantastic Hosts and Pet Sit in the Cotswolds

We fell in love with Andrea and Graham's 2 big pups, Dolly, Pimmy and their outdoor cat, Minnie! They are completely adorable, and also wonderful companions. Andrea, Graham and their fun family are welcoming and warm and showed us around, took us to eat pizza before they left on their trip, and gave us tomatoes and herbs from their backyard garden. Their home is tidy, organized, and very peaceful. We found it easy to relax there and our daily dog walks were such a treat! Their home is super convenient to gorgeous nature walks, parks, historic architecture, great restaurants and fast transportation to the center of Cirencester (and beyond). They left clear instructions, so we had ease in knowing what was needed and where to find everything. We HIGHLY recommend this sit and would gladly return to give lots of belly rubs to Andrea and Graham’s lovely doggies ANYTIME!

Great host

My husband and I pet sitted for Andrea and Graham for 10 days while they were away. They were absolutely great and generous hosts: they treated us to dinner when we arrived, they drove us around to show us the area and the nearby town of Cirencester and told us everything we needed to know about caring for their pets. They kept in touch regularly. Their two little dogs are two sweeties, so easy going and affectionate that we took them along with us everywhere. The cat is quite independent and mostly does her own thing, but does come inside in the evening for the odd cuddle. The area is beautiful with long walking paths and Cirencester is a nice town. We thouroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you so much Andrea and Graham!

Autumn in Cirencester

We enjoyed a wonderful month housesitting for Andrea and Graham in the autumn of 2015. They have a beautiful, well organized house, garden and allotment, from which we enjoyed end of the year produce – most memorable being fresh borlotti beans! There are great walks to be had right from the doorstep, the lively town is interesting to explore and markets are fun. We didn’t have the pleasure of looking after Alfie and Bertie as they had gone to their Gran’s. Minnie was shy but sweet and took to Gerry well. The fish of course are no trouble at all! Andrea and Graham are lovely people who noticed, and were grateful for, any little tasks we had carried out or repairs that we had dealt with. House sitting for them is thoroughly recommended!
