About this assignment

I will go to germany in summer from mid june +/- to mid september +/- .Max my cat, who is a little fearful of strangers and the chickens will stay . My house is on its own and in the countryside, but not isolated. I need someone who will keep it running as usual. Nothing special, all easy and natural. You have to be careful with water. Its not raining enough and you have to water the plants. I only have a well and don't know how many water is left.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Looking after the animals, while they are there and keeping everything ticking over. Nothing special. All the food will be there, nothing has to be bought.
The most important thing is to manage the water. I also would like handy people who can fix if something is broken. And people who knows about gardening.

What are the good features of the property and location

It is very quiet and in the middle of the countryside but not isolated. It is also very close to the little village, 500m .There are big towns and the beach within 30 or 40 minutes.15km to the next bigger town and hospital. 20min with the car. 15km also to the french border. 30km to the beach. 60km to the next airport in Gerona or Perpignan. The land measures 6000m2 and has mostly olive trees. Beautiful views and surroundings.Loads of walks and bike tracks. There is a lovely wood burning stove in the living room, confortable sofas and beds and a well appointed kitchen for those who like to cook.Plenty of fresh eggs. Satellite tv.You would be in the guest room, which has a conforted regular sized doublebed and the bathroom is just across the hall.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

It is in the middle of the countryside, so a car is fairly necessary. I will be take mine with me, so I cannot offer it to you. There are, however, bikes availible, which will get you to the village and round and about. There is no internet connection. However, if you have a mobile connection, you can connect using a hotspot. You must have no worries being with animals and on your own.Max will not come close to you in the first few days.He is very wary of people he doesnt know. The chickens are easy to handle.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Fantastic host, place and loving animals ❤️

We spent two wonderful months in Birgit's house in Capmany, a little 400 people village. It was a whole rich experience! First, Birgit is a tremendous host, she will make you feel comfortable, and assist you in any matter or task you ask about the animals or house issues you can have... she is very experienced and chill! Second (list is not hierarchical): animal beings. Dharma was a super clever dog. We really turn like friends, go lot of hikings and riding bike together. She's very communicative, points at things, shows you paths, you feel she is close to speak sometimes! Max the cat is super easy going, super cuddling asker, and he's very very handsome! What a nice cat he was :)) The chickens were easy as expected to feed and watch, just you should be more careful than you could think about how they can leave hidden eggs to make nests! They are very imaginative on that point! There's some more other visitors and hosts in the house, birds and insects, you may find lot of experiences with them also :)) Third, the house and place. It's a super comfortable place, the views from the outdoor living room was an emotional tear maker :') so lovelies mornings and evenings we spent there! It's full equiped, and very autonomous. The house is also the last one from one corner of the town, so it's near to go to make some shops in there. And by bike you are 15mins from Cantallops or La Jonquera where you can find even supermarkets. If you like biking, walking, hiking... the place is awesome! Every road have multiple side roads so you can always have a new thrill :)) Since we've been in summer, near the house we could swim in the Darnius "lake", have some fresh time in the Llobregat river and also enjoyed the L'anyet river from San Clemente. We rate this experience 100/100 :D

Rural location for nature lovers

Birgit welcomed us with a nice meal and explained everything what we needed to take care of Max (the cat) and her 25 chicken. Max was really great fun. Being a bit shy in the beginning we quickly became friends and he requested cuddles all das long... We had a problem with the water supply during our stay and Birgit organised support right away. We really enjoyed the rural location where we did a lot of hiking and also some hiking.

Lovely stay

For 4 weeks we stayed at Birgits house situated on the slope of a hill. From the top floor there is a beautifull view over the olive trees in to the valley. Downstairs the chickens are enjoying their free range between the olivetrees. Birgit welcomed us with a nice meal and gave us very clear infomation about how to handle Max, the cat, the chicken, and the house. If there would be any problems we could contact her daughter living about 30 km further. We needed to do this when some technical problems withe the heating occured, and they were fixed immediately. The house is situated along the small countyroad close to the village, but no nearby neighbours, and quiet comfortable. Capmany is a small village with several wine cellars, some restaurants and one tiny shop. The countryside is extremely beautyful with many opportunities for walking, hiking and biking. A lot of Megalithical remains like Dolmen and Menhirs are within walking distance and many pittoresque villages are nearby. A bit further away is Figueras for the shopping and musea. The magnificent coast of the Mediterranean with the beautiful vollage Roses is some 30 km. away. We enjoyed the area and the house and garden and chicken so much, we didn’t even visit Barcelona for one day, as we planned beforehand. Thank you Birgit fort he wonderfull stay!

Beautiful place and lovely animals

We spent a month at Birgit's place. Since the begining we felt in love with the friendly dogs and cat, the location of the house, the charming garden, the breathtaking views, the rural surroundings of mediterranean forest and nature and, of course, the good morning from the chickens and their fresh eggs. The property is big but easy to handle. The house is modern and very comfortable and, even in the countryside, very close to a friendly and small village with some restaurants and a local shop. For major shopping the car is necessary due to lack of supermarkes close by. The animals are all very well behavied and affectionate and we became close friends since the first moment. Maya, Moon, Dharma and Max will always stay in our hearts. Birgit gave us good instructions and she was always willing to help with our doubts and concerns. Thanks to her and all the animals. We hope to see them again!

Wonderful secluded property with friendly dogs, cat and chickens

My sit here in Capmany has just come to an end, and it couldn't have gone better. Birgit was really friendly from the outset, welcoming me with open arms, although obviously a little apprehensive as this was the first time she had used a house sitter. She was well prepared for me, with all the necessary details and information to hand. Her home is charming, warm and welcoming (with a beautiful log burning stove) and the dogs (Maya and Moon) were all over me right from my arrival. Max, the cat, was less sure of me, but within about 24 hours was demanding cuddles. The chickens were no problem at all and gave me some delicious fresh eggs. I had a lovely time exploring the area, which is chock full of megalithic remains, with the dogs - on foot and by bike - as well as visiting some of the local beauty (and historical) spots, such as Besalú and Roses. Many thanks, Birgit, Maya, Moon, Max and the chickens for making me so welcome and my stay such a memorable one.
