About this assignment

Looking for an experienced responsible cat sitter to look after two adult cats and a younger 7 month kitten.
Must be an early riser.
A person working at home is preferred.
Should be familiar with Latin American culture and tropical living a plus.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

The cats are early risers and have a specific routine that must be followed. They wake at 5am have a snack and then go outside.
They have a varied diet of raw fish, beef and chicken along with canned food and a bit of dry kibble. Some foods will need to be prepared by you.
The adult cats can suffer from UR issues and we use natural remedies to manage this if needed.
They have access to inside/outside all during the day but they must be in at night, usually around 8pm.
Other responsibilities include maintaining a clean house. Thorough daily/weekly cleaning is very important in this small space with three pets.
The yard is maintained by the gardener however a bit of sweeping/raking the cut grass off /away from porch and watering will be necessary.
Tend to several inside potted plants.

What are the good features of the property and location

Comfortable modern one bedroom duplex - One side is AirBNB, the other side is residence. Sitter will have access to both sides - no renters during the sit - and stay in the Airbnb side apartment.
Convenient location with easy walk to shops and restaurants. Local buses and taxi available. A car is not needed.
Temperate climate in the tropics.
El Valle de Anton is best suited for outdoor enthusiast offering hiking, biking, zip line and river swimming. Many restaurants, grocery stores and veggie stands close by. Occasionally a restaurant will have evening entertainment but there is really no night life here. This is a small town.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

This is the tropics - warm, rainy and green. It will be rainy season, expect downpours and intermittent rain. Not every day but can be several days in a row.
The power can and does go out unexpectedly, usually just for short periods. This also affects wifi.
Spanish is not necessary but knowing a few polite phases goes a long way.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Testimonials

A perfect stay for digital nomads

Sitting Dude and Chachi (such darlings) provided me with a peaceful and quiet stay, perfect for while I'm working remotely on a larger project. Irene is a hospitable host who accepted me in her house a few days prior to her leaving, which allowed me to get to know the cats' routine very well. It also helped me as I had some deadlines to catch upon arrival, so being able to work after being comfortably accommodated came really useful at the time. El Valle de Anton is unlike any other place I visited or lived at: being inside an extinct volcano (the second largest settlement inside a volcano on the planet, I've been told) the town basically serves as a trailhead for a number of magnificent hikes that you can do within a day (even between cats' breakfast and lunch, proven ;)). I haven't run out of new hiking possibilities in the six weeks I spent there. It's a perfect stay for anyone who works part-time or full-time and enjoys an active lifestyle.
