About this assignment
Someone who is dependable, chill and loves cats. Kevin is a cranky old man who will need some time to warm up to you.
What responsibilities are required of the house sitter
Kevin is pretty easy! He eats a mix of two kinds of food, but this will be pre-mixed and ready for you. He is a grazer--I fill his bowl as he empties it, and I definitely leave it full before I go to bed--otherwise he will wake you up.
Water--Kevin is pre-CKD, so having access to plenty of fresh water is critical for him. I fill his bowl (in the bedroom) in the morning and at night. He will also ask for drinks from the downstairs sink and bathtub, which I just give him whenever they are requested.
One other health quirk--he's had MANY tests done and been to many specialists, and no one can tell me why, but he periodically poops blood. It looks alarming, but doesn't seem to affect his health.
Litter box--there are two. Kevin is fine now but has a complicated urinary history, so our litter box routine is a bit unorthodox. Basically, both boxes need to be entirely cleaned out every other day, not just scooped. I will go over this with you in person.
The litter boxes need to be kept clean or he will protest-pee on the floor. I really do not want this to happen.
Housework-- The only room in the house I keep militantly clean is the kitchen. I don't want pests! I have a robot vacuum that I run every other day to keep up with pet hair, but I don't want to dictate what the sitter is doing while I'm gone. I just ask that you leave the apartment as clean as you found it.
What are the good features of the property and location
The apartment is the first two floors of a house on a quiet block in the Ocean Hill neighborhood. I am two blocks away from the J train, and a 15 minute walk from the C.
There are fantastic bars, coffee shops, restaurants and grocery stores in the neighborhood. It strikes a nice balance between being quiet and residential, but also accessible to the rest of the city.
What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment
I really need someone who is dependable and consistent. It's important to me to get daily updates about Kevin, I worry about him when I am gone.
It's also REALLY important to me that you feel comfortable asking me questions if there's something you need or don't understand! I will be in remote rural Pennsylvania this week, and I'm not sure what cell reception will be like. I will definitely have wifi at the hotel and can be reached on WhatsApp, Signal or Telegram.
Kev a sensitive little guy and gets freaked out when I leave. We're very bonded. He is standoffish until he gets used to you, so just give him space at first.
I listed this sit as "flexible" in case you need to come one day early or leave one day later than my dates--I have a guest room that you can use.

Good vibes abound!
My partner and I had the chance to live like a local in Laura's cozy Brooklyn flat with her many beautiful plants and the precocious Bev and Kev! Bev is slow to warm up to others but with some gentle conjoling will warm up and show her true diva side! Kev is a little more interactive, but has a saucy attitude to let you know he is the boss! They were a breeze to take care of and easy to fall for. Laura was warm and friendly, so helpful with the neighborhood and apartment. Definitely a memorable experience!

Adorable Bev and Kev
We're smitten with Bev and Kev! Laura entrusted us with the care of these two adorable senior kittens. Kev is incredibly friendly but appreciates his personal space. If you crowd him, he'll politely let you know. He's laid-back, fun-loving, and an absolute joy to be around. Queen Bev, our three-legged beauty, took her time warming up to us, but it was well worth the wait. Once she trusts you, she's an absolute darling. Laura's warm hospitality made a world of difference. Her clear instructions and constant availability were reassuring. Her home, nestled in Brooklyn's vibrant neighborhood, makes you feel like a true local. With supermarkets, restaurants, and a nearby bus stop, exploring New York is a breeze. Thank you, Laura, Bev, and Kev, for welcoming us into your lovely home. We hope to visit again soon! 🏡🐾❤️

Two precious kitties in a sunny Brooklyn NY Apartment
In November of 2022 I pet sat for Laura and Audrey and their two cats, Bev and Kev. Laura and Audrey were great and gave me all the information I needed to do the job. They also left me a pass to go to the botanical gardens and gave me a list of local grocery stores and restaurants. Everything I needed for a successful house/pet sitting. They were very responsive whenever I needed to ask them a question, etc. Kev is (as Laura puts it), "sweet and spicy". At first he was swatting at me with his paws and hissing a little.. He was not too happy that his owners had left. But I played some soothing kitty music with purring on YouTube and he calmed down in a bit. It works like a charm every time. Later he was purring and nuzzling my leg. So no worries, he comes around. Bev is a sweetheart with three legs. She is a bit shy but it was fine. We all co-existed together well. Laura and Audrey's place is bright and sunny. I love NYC and was thrilled to have a chance to experience being a local in Brooklyn. If you get the chance to pet set for these lovelies I highly recommend it. Thank you Laura, Audrey, Bev, and Kev.

Kev and Bev - Such fun company!
I had a lovely weekend with the kitties and the plants in a comfortable apartment close to my favorite beach and a park with a drum circle. Kev introduced himself formally with a nonchalant meow in passing quite quickly as the cool cat he is while Bev was happy to snuggle up next to me allowing me to pet her super soft fur.
