About this assignment

I'm looking for an individual, couple or small family who enjoy(s) rural life, to hang out with my dog Pixie and 2 cats, Stitch and Spook and 4 chickens. The location is pretty rural, so your own transport isn't essential, but you'll find yourself pretty stuck in the village with no public transport available here. If you're interested in all the periods or just part of it, get in touch!

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Pixie likes a good (short) run in the woods or a trip down to the lake (either a 5 minute drive or a half hour walk) she's getting on a little so short walks are enough for her these days; the cats require minimal care: feeding and they love a good cuddle. The lawn needs mowing and I have a lot of houseplants that need regular watering. The chickens roam free in the garden throughout the day, but have a henhouse to keep them safe from marauding foxes overnight.

What are the good features of the property and location

It's a relatively compact house, 1 double bedroom and a very small single room. I'm still finishing off renovations, so photos are a little limited! The property is tucked away, but pretty central to the village. Population in winter just over 800. It's a fairly quiet municipality, with a lovely swimming lake; which is lovely all year round (some are courageous enough to swim all year round). The village has a small supermarket, a bakery and a bar/tabac with a terrace on the square. All of the above is within walking distance. Although the house is not completely isolated, there are neighbours, the garden is private. There is plenty of hiking/biking to be had both on the doorstep and in surrounding areas and plenty of attractions in the vicinity for nature lovers.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Own transport isn't 100% a must as the village has all essentials, but the essentials are basic and your own transport opens the surrounding area up to you. It is a renovated farmhouse, heated by oil and a wood fire in the kitchen, it's rustic, but it has general creature comforts, a modern bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen and wi-fi (fibre-optic, for those working from 'home').

Can I bring my own pets?

Yes
Restrictions: I'm happy to discuss this option

Testimonials

Lovely person, lovely house, lovely cats!

We stayed a week caring for the cats at Tamara and it was wonderful. She is very nice and easy going, and the cats are very independent - one even disappeared for few days and got us worried, but Tamara was really reassuring and cool about it :) The house and garden are very nice, we even could eat some veggies and fruits from there. Yummy! Thank you Tamara for your kindness and we hope to see you and your cats again!

Relaxed house sitting in France

We stayed for 2.5 months in Tamara's French stone house near a beautiful bathing lake. During this time we looked after 2 great cats, Stitch and Spoky, and part of the time also for Tamara's dog Pixie, who, however, went to live with friends after a month. Stitch was a bit shy at first, but after 3 days he was a cat that needed a lot of cuddles. She is a hunter and likes to bring you some mice as gifts. We also took care of the garden. Pull weeds, mow the lawn and water the plants. The two of us were able to cope well with the work and had a lot of free time. The internet connection was stable and sufficient for normal activities on the internet. The neighbors are nice and you didn't feel disturbed or watched, as tamara has a beautiful garden with spots where you can sunbathe or eat relaxed on the terrace without being watched. In the small sweet village there is a Proxy supermarket, a pharmacy and a pub. However, it is recommended to have a car, because then you are more flexible overall. The bathing lake can be reached on foot in 20 minutes and is really nice, you can sit there and have a drink, swim, go subboarding and there is always a lot of activity there, also because there is a campsite nearby. In addition, the lake is a great way to cool off in summer and it was always great fun for pixie to swim in the water. We had our own room, there is also a nice bathroom with a large shower and bath. The kitchen also has all the necessary things to be able to cook normal dishes there. Tamara is very nice and helpful and you could always reach her via Whatsapp and she helped. There are also many helpful people in the village who were introduced to us on the first day. Maybe someday there will be the opportunity to do housesitting again. Warm greetings Gloria and Erik
