About this assignment

We are looking for someone (or a couple) who loves animals and is experienced with cats and dogs. It's a brand new house, in a quiet neighborhood, so someone reliable, non- smoking and tidy is preferred.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Responsibilities would include:
- taking care of our dog Tani and 2 cats (Hobbsy and Otis). Note that Hobbsy (grey cat) has recently been diagnosed with a spline tumor and requires daily medication.
- water houseplants.
- keeping the house clean.
- fish are auto-feed and tank will not require special attention (just enjoy watching it :))
- snow removal to allow access to the parking and house in case of snow (it's great exercise in the morning !)

What are the good features of the property and location

- Newly built house with wooden floors and floor heating.
- The house has one large bedroom with a king bed and a desk, as well as large living room, open kitchen and separate laundry room.
- Nice and cosy living room with fire place and wood available to burn
- Remote and close to the city at the same time.
- Good reliable internet connection (fiber)
- Connected to municipal water
- Close to nature and walks (forest in the backyard)
- Connected by bus to Norrtalje (15min away, main town with all shops, hospital, vet, ...) and Stockholm (1hr).
- Car available to drive (Volvo C30) with snow tires

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

It's a short assignment in winter, it can be chilly (-10C during the day) and daylight are short (6h of sun per day). There are buses to town, 4 to 6 times a day with good connection to Stockholm for a day trip. For groceries, we'll have our car available but please be aware that you'll be driving on snow or ice. We trust that the sitters will care for our pets.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Unforgettable winter adventure in a quiet Swedish village

I had an absolutely incredible experience housesitting for Julie, Etienne, and their daughter Thea in a charming village in Sweden. Their home was warm, inviting, and fully equipped with everything I needed. It was nestled in a serene neighborhood right next to a small forest where I was taking their dog Tani for walks. I also had the pleasure of taking care of their two adorable cats, Hobbsy and Otis, as well as their fish. The surrounding area offered many opportunities for biking and hiking, including a long-distance trail that passed right through the village that I was able to hike with Tani. The town with a supermarket was just a short bike or bus ride away, and I even had the chance to explore Stockholm on day trips by bus. Julie and Etienne were unbelievably kind, helpful, and welcoming. They were always quick to respond to my messages and went above and beyond to help me resolve any issues or answer any questions I had. We’ve stayed in touch even after my housesit ended, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to spend 5 months in their beautiful home, experiencing the magic of a real winter with real snow. I would jump at the chance to come back and housesit for them again. Thank you, Julie, Etienne, and Thea, for being such amazing hosts! ????
