About this assignment

Interested to spend winter in South-West Finland next to a national park called Kurjenrahka? City called Turku is 30minutes away, as well as Finland archipelago. Own car is a necessary.

We offer a housesitting position for a winter time, starting somewhere in October or November, and ending in the end of February. Time is flexible but minimum 2 months stay would be required. We ask you to pay your own utilities, which at the winter month are usually 250€-550€, included heating, electricity, water, internet (good for remote work), waste and snow shovel. Because there are solar panels and ground heating, the costs stay relatively low, even though the house is 260m2 with kitchen, dining and living room, office and 3 bedrooms, two saunas, two toilets and fireplace and wooden stoven (also electric one). Ask for more pictures, we are happy to share!

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Extremely important is to leave the house overall clean after yourself when leaving.House-sitting tasks are couple times lawn mowing still in October if needed, and putting the garden furniture to winter storage. Watering the plants in the house. Then just to be relaxed and enjoy your time =) Own pets are welcome. Ou, and also feed the wild birds (at our cost) during the winter months.

What are the good features of the property and location

House is 260 m² big, and it is cosy with a fireplace, 2 saunas, 2 toilets and bbq area outside. House is on 3 levels and the yard is 3600m². It is almost 100 years old sawmill area next to tiny river (there is a an otter living at the river, and lots of wild animals near). Wifi is good for remote working. Absolute privacy and quietness on the countryside.

House is next to the National park, you can drive with a car for a nice starting point, or start hiking even straight from the house. Village walking paths will cross the National park marked walking paths within 2 kilometres after starting from the house. Valpperi village is a small but active village without grocery store (it was voted the best village in South West Finland in 2022). It takes 10mins to a small store in Vahto and 15mins to Nousiainen city centrum, 20 mins to Raisio where are big stores and surely everything you need, and then 30 mins to Turku city centrum. There are skiing tracks, walking paths, swimming pond (winter ice dipping), frisbee golf etc. near the house. Nousiainen city centrum is 15 mins away with grocery store, couple restaurants, bank, cafe, bars etc.

You are allowed to ask friends and family over of course. You are free to come and go even for over night stays even if the house is empty, we just ask you to tell if you will be gone for long so then we need to send someone over to water the plants. Thanks =) P.s you might see the Northern lights sometimes

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Car is a must. Also, at the winter we will keep the ground heating set only to 21 degrees plus warm up with the wood sometimes on top of it. You better have wool socks and know how to dress at the winter times. If you expect the house staying much warmer, then the utility costs are much higher because at the winter time even in South of Finland it can get as cold as minus 30 degrees, that is not common.

Can I bring my own pets?

Yes
