We are looking for a long-term couple, for a large old property in rural Ireland, so that there is a continuing presence onsite whenever the owners are away on business. The ideal persons would be self-reliant, resourceful, proactive, practical, attentive to detail, very clean, hospitable, good-humoured, and generally contented.
DIY and basic garden maintenance skills are a definite plus. This opportunity could be ideal for people who work from home, for a young family, an active mature couple. Ideally, you would be looking to settle in here. The property will be much enjoyed by people who have an appreciation of tranquil beauty and history.
The house sitters will be a visible presence in the house and grounds, and will be responsible for normal, proactive day-to-day care and issues that arise in any property. Some problems they should be able to resolve themselves, and others may require help from a list of approved contractors. The house sitters are not expected to clean the house, except in an emergency.
The house is also used by occasional family and guests and, in the absence of the owners, the house sitters will also be asked to open up, welcome, and close the house after the guests have left. No cleaning is required for these guests, except in an emergency.
No specific skills are required. No animal-related duties are needed, though carers must be comfortable having horses and cattle onsite.
For somebody who likes nature, this is a magical place, a lovely old house, with woods, gardens, water, and a strong sense of community with the neighbours.
The accommodation provided is an independent part of the house. It is a comfortable 4-bed wing with a separate entrance and garden, an oil range in the kitchen, central heating, and open fires.
Basic furniture is provided, own furniture is welcome.
All property costs other than central heating oil, fuel for any fire, and telephone/internet are paid by the owners. House sitters will be responsible for keeping their own wing and garden clean and tidy.
Do you have the resources to spend long periods in a remote location with limited social contact? Are you able to note problems (gutters, fuel tank, etc.) before they arise and deal with them to the best of your ability before calling for professional help? Do you actively look out for things that might be out of place or going wrong? Do you keep regular hours and enjoy interfacing politely with people?
You must have a car.
No salary.
Long-term (1 year+) preferred.
Yes
Restrictions: If they are friendly, healthy, and clean.
