About this assignment

Hej!

How about taking a break from the world and enjoy total silence in a cozy farm surrounded by forest? This is the most peaceful place some of our visitors have ever been too! You’ll get to care for our friendly sheep and curious chickens, keeping you connected with nature. Drink the best water straight from our natural well behind the house. Whether you’re looking for peace and quiet or feel like taking on some farm challenges, this place has it all. It’s the perfect mix of calm and adventure, with nature all around!

We are Wilma and Lennart, living in the woods of western Sweden with our son. Finalizing studies, we went abroad and are looking for enthusiastic farm sitters.
We would like someone for our home who is reliable and responsible. Most importantly, we need you to communicate openly with us and we can easily reach each other if any questions or problems arise.
We will be away at least until may 2025 but might have someone from January. If you are interested in staying the whole time till May, please reach out too. Maybe you can also stay longer, depending on how both of us feel during the stay (we might take some more time abroad).
If the end of September is too early for you, we can ask our neighbours to fill in till for a couple weeks.
You will definitely need a car, a driver's license and some driving experience.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

You would have to take care of our chickens and sheep. During the winter this includes feeding them every day, checking the water. During the summer, we use mobile fences for the sheep which need do be moved once a week.
There are also a few things that need to be done over time: Muck out the chicken coop, winterize the yard (e.g., take down the poly tunnel and turn on frost protections etc). On average, the work should not take much more than 15 minutes a day.

What are the good features of the property and location

Our small farm is in the middle of the forest - the perfect place for a nature lover. Here you will find silence (often you really don't hear any sounds), incredible starry skies and the good, simple life. Winters are long, but beautiful: snow is everywhere, turning the farm into a winter wonderland.
Our farm is also great for working, besides the peace and quiet you will also find a fiber optic connection.
The farm offers you many opportunities to try new things: we have a small, but fully equipped workshop, an old loom, a piano and plenty of space to get creative.
Also our animals are always happy to see you - the sheep are very trusting and always want to be petted.
We have lovely neighbours who are happy to have a coffee, teach you some Swedish or just chat.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

You should know, that the next big store is 40km away and you would live in a village with 15 people. Although all neighbours take good care of each other (including new neighbours strightaway), it can get a little lonely.
If you're looking for a comfortable life where you don't have to worry about anything, this isn't the place for you. We heat with firewood, that heats up a warm water system in the house - that means you need to get the firewood in and light a fire to have it warm and cozy.
You should enjoy winter and snow and shouldn't mind the cold.
Please also consider that our animals are still farm animals even if they have pet character. That means, we butcher the male ones, if necessary. You don't have to be a part of this in any way, but you should be okay with it.

Can I bring my own pets?

Yes

Great experience

We had a wonderful experience at Wilma's place! The farm is in the most amazing location, deep in the forest in a village of a few houses with most kind people living there. The sheep at the farm are also very special, they love cuddle and ask for it anytime you are near them... Taking care of them is quite easy and pleasant. All amenities are available in the nearest town, groceries, pool, children playgroup and much more depending what one needs... Recommend greatly to experience this opportunity in beautiful sweden...
