About this assignment

My husband and I are newlyweds. We married on September 1st and we moved into this rural home in August. We have set up our life here and have two beautiful dogs. In December we are going on our honeymoon to Argentina and then to my family in England for Christmas. We will be away for around 6 weeks.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Just to feed the dogs once in the morning and once in the evening and to keep them company throughout the day. It'd also be great to water the plants in the garden with the hose. The dogs don't need to be walked, they have the garden to run around in, unless of course, you want to walk them. The smaller dog will be only about 5 months old, he's not yet housetrained but we're working on it! At the moment he needs to be taken out into the garden regularly with treats but we are hoping he will learn by December (almost 3 months away).

What are the good features of the property and location

Very cosy and rural, in a small Greek village ten minutes away from the gorgeous coastal town of Pylos. In December and January, it is mostly very quiet. You will have a log burner. The house is old and with lots of character, but since moving in we have replaced and updated some things. For example, it has a new washing machine, fridge, oven, toilet, sofa, and king-sized mattress. We also have great wifi. We have fruitful lemon, orange, and pomegranate trees in the garden. We also grow basil, mint, and bay leaves. You will have an insured car to drive into Pylos to go shopping, the route is beautiful, and you get a view of the town and the coast from above. In Pylos, there is a beautiful coastline, a castle, lots of independent shops, bakeries, and coffee houses. It's truly a really beautiful little town.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

The house looks big on the outside but feels small on the inside. It almost feels like a two bedroom flat, all on one level. The downstairs is all storage and blocked off from the upstairs. There are two small bedrooms, our bed takes up almost the entirety of our bedroom, and the other we use for storage. Then there's a sitting room, a kitchen, a rather dated bathroom and a sizeable balcony. This house is rural and in the tiny Greek village of Kinigou. 10 minutes drive away you have Pylos, a small town. There isn't a lot to do in the winter, there's no theatre or cinema etc. This stay would require someone who enjoys exploring nature, staying in and cosy with a log fire, and who doesn't mind feeling a little isolated. The nearest airport is one hour away in Kalamata, flights can be difficult to find. If they are, you can fly into Athens and there is a 3-hour bus into Pylos.

Can I bring my own pets?

Yes
