One cute hound mix!
My wife and I moved to Washington D.C. from Nebraska in 2018. I work in Software Engineering and my wife works as an event coordinator. We love D.C. and love living right next to the Capitol and the Anacostia river. We enjoy board games (you'll have access to plenty in our home!) and going to one of the local breweries in our neighborhood.
We adopted Nora in February 2021 and are looking for someone/s to help take care of her while we go back home to visit friends and family.
You will need to Walk Nora 3 times per day (once when you wake up, over before dinner and once before you go to bed).
She is very nervous around kids so we ask that no one apply if you plan to sit with a child under the age of 12.
She is house trained and knows her routine. Nora spends her days lounging/napping on her favorite spot on our couch and enjoys being pet (she will be your best friend if you rub under her chin and her belly).
She will need to be fed once in the morning (after her first walk) and once in the evening (after her third walk). Otherwise, during the day, she really doesn't need anything else besides some cuddles.
Nora has separation anxiety that is managed with medication and a routine. You will need to give her medicine each morning (just a pill we put in her food) and make sure you have prepared her for your departure (she has been let out, has been fed, she has her toys, the radio is on, etc.). She's able to be left alone for up to 8 hours and she's used to us being gone at work during the day/going out to dinner and drinks in the evening. We have more information on how to successfully leave her alone that we can provide once we speak.
Other responsibilities will include sweeping our hardwood floors once per day (as Nora does shed ) and vacuuming the couch/chair and bathroom about once every other day to ensure we don't accumulate too much dog hair in our space.
Overall, Nora is a very well behaved dog- no biting, no food aggression, no begging, etc. She takes a bit of time to warm up to strangers but will be your bestfriend if you spend some time scratching or rubbing her.
We live in a one-bedroom apartment in Navy Yard. We are .8 miles from the Capitol and .7 miles from the Anacostia River. Additionally, we are two blocks from the Green Line Metro and a 12 minute walk to the Blue/Orange/Silver Lines so you have easy access to the entire city. We also have a bike share a block from our home and have easy access to electric bikes/scooters (so no need for a car!). We are surrounded by restaurants, parks, shopping and bars (all within walking distance). You will have access to our entire space, including our king bed, walk in closet, large living room area, in unit washer and dryer, and kitchen. In addition to our apartment, you will have access to our building amenities. These include our rooftop (seating, grills, etc.), rooftop swimming pool, rooftop wading pool, rooftop gym, and courtyard (grills, firepits, seating areas, bocce ball court, etc.). We love going to our roof in the summers and it has the perfect viewing area to the see the mall, the Capitol and all the monuments (including any fireworks that may happen). We have a large desk/work space setup in our apartment as well if you need space to work from home and have high speed internet. Lastly, we are only a fifteen minute drive from the Ronald Reagan airport.
We do not have dedicated parking in our apartment for guests. Also, sitters cannot bring dogs or small children with them on the sit. Any children must be > 13.
No, sorry.

Great pet owners and sweet dog
My husband and sat for Nora and cared for Jakob's home through another platform. Nora is very loving and easy to care for. The apartment is clean, comfortable and in a great location with easy Metro access. Jakob and Maddy were responsive, friendly and provided all the info needed for Nora, the apartment and the neighborhood. We hope to return.
