About this assignment

We’re looking for someone who is truly an animal lover. Our two large rescue dogs are incredibly gentle with people but don’t get along well with other dogs. We want someone who uses only positive reinforcement and truly respects dogs as family members. Since they’ve been through a lot (including immigrating with us from South Africa to Spain), we want them to feel completely safe and relaxed in their own home. A sitter who is reliable, communicative, and genuinely loves dogs would be the perfect fit! We are very relaxed people and just want to make sure our dogs are treated with love and kindness

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Our main priority is that our dogs are well cared for, safe, and loved while we’re away. Other than that, we want you to feel at home and enjoy the peace and quiet of our countryside home. It’s a very calm, rural setting — a perfect place to unwind.

The house is off-grid, so there might be the occasional need to run the generator on overcast days, but we’ll make sure everything is set up for a comfortable and easy stay. We’ll also leave clear instructions so you feel confident and supported.

We’re looking for someone who will treat our home and dogs with kindness and care, and in return, we hope you’ll enjoy a peaceful and restorative time here

What are the good features of the property and location

Our home is nestled in the peaceful countryside, surrounded by olive groves and stunning views — including the Sierra Nevada mountains, which you can see right from the property. It’s the perfect spot for nature lovers who enjoy quiet walks, beautiful sunsets, and a slower pace of life.

We’re just 6 minutes from the nearest small town and about 15 minutes from Loja, which has all the amenities you might need — shops, restaurants, a train station, and easy access to public transport. From Loja, you can easily reach Granada (45 minutes away) or the Costa del Sol (around an hour), both great for day trips.

There are also lovely nearby villages where you can experience authentic Spanish culture and tapas, and Alhama de Granada — with its breathtaking gorge walk — is just 15 minutes away. In summer, the public pool in Salar is a fantastic place to cool off and relax.

If you’re looking for a quiet, scenic stay with easy access to cultural and natural highlights, this is a truly special place.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

You’ll need your own car to travel to and from town — we’re in a rural area and it’s not possible to get by without one as the nearest villages is a 6 minute drive. While Loja has train and bus connections, day-to-day life here requires driving.

This is an ideal sit for someone who genuinely wants to experience traditional Spanish countryside living. We’re not in a tourist hotspot, but rather surrounded by small, authentic towns and villages where you can enjoy local culture, peaceful landscapes, and a slower pace of life. If you're looking for a quiet, grounding experience away from the hustle and bustle, this could be a perfect fit.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.
