About this assignment
We are looking for a couple that are sensitive, patient, kind, and most importantly, dog, cat, and plant lovers. We are located in a smallish pueblo in the Yucatán, 30 minutes from Merida and 20 minutes from the beach.
What responsibilities are required of the house sitter
Feeding, walking(slowly) and loving our 2 very old rescue dogs (one with fears and physical issues requiring physical therapy including daily swimming) - Feeding our very large rescue cat. Normal maintenance of our old colonial home, patio, and large garden. Keeping it clean and garden watered. (We do have caretakers who do weekly pool maintenance and garden clean up.)
What are the good features of the property and location
It is a large old colonial house with a beautiful pool in the center of a small bustling town. The people are very friendly and mostly all Spanish-speaking. There are lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, and meats. There are panaderías, tortillerías, platerías, pizzerías, cocina económics, etc.. There are small grocery stores. There is a 24-hour farmacia. What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment
This is a tropical climate - hot and humid., It is 20 minutes to a major grocery store. It would be helpful to speak at least rudimentary Spanish. Must be patient and kind especially with our one special-needs dog and our one especially-needy dog. They walk very very slowly. You must be respectful to our town and neighbors. There is no smoking in the house.

Wonderful Villa, great pets and quiet, tranquil town
We spent 5 weeks in Baca at Casalunita. Casalunita is a stunning villa with a great pool and surrounded by many plants, flowers and trees. Fiona, the cat is purrfect. She is independent, but likes to snuggle up with you at night. Azula, the blue eyed dog, loves to take walks and is extremely obedient and easy to care for. Alita, the brown eyed dog, is also very obedient and takes short walks and swims in the pool. Both dogs are easy to care for, have great personalities, and will win your heart. Fiona the cat is frisky, playful and does a bit of hunting, also easy to care for. Crystal and Caroline are very accessible to reach and leave in depth instructions on how to care for house and property and pets. While i was house sitting I had a bit of a medical problem and Caroline contacted a nurse to come to the house to care for me at midnight. Baca is a small pueblo, but has a variety of food markets, medical clinics, pharmacies and very nice walks. Beaches (with great seafood restaurants), and cenotes and historical ruins are close by via car, and wonderful day trips can be had. The city of Merida is about 40 minutes away and easy to get to. We really enjoyed our stay at Casalunita. We were there during the pandemic, and felt very safe as everyone in town is very Covid conscious, wears masks, and practices social distancing. It was also very easy to get the required Covid test at the Merida airport to reenter the US or another country from Mexico. We had a lovely, peaceful time here.I highly recommend this sit.

Our best experience by far was sitting for Alita ,Azula and FIona
Crystal & Carolyn were absolutely wonderful to us and their beautiful home was a pleasure to enjoy for our long term sit. We would gladly come back anytime!!!!! Alita, Azula, and Fiona were absolute DOLLS to care for and kept us amused with their antics. Very, well behaved and well cared for animals. If all of our sits were like this one, we would NEVER go home!!!! The homeowners are extremely organized, approachable, reachable anytime, prepared us for anything that may arise and had carefully planned out every aspect of our stay. They have carefully constructed a detailed manual on the running of the home, caring for their animals and plants, along with sightseeing information and detailed maps. I cannot say enough about how we already miss these homeowners, animals, and the beautiful people of Baca!!!!!

Sanctuary Like Sit
What a wonderful sanctuary like sit! Crystal and Carolyn have made sure that Casa Lunita is just as much a wonderful stay for you (their sitter) as they do their guests. You will undoubtedly find it an absolutely home away from home . The neighbors are super friendly and Azula and Alita are the absolute sweetest. Honestly - I highly recommend Casa Lunita for any sitter, but especially those that need a little reprieve. You will have everything you need and more! Have fun!!!
