About this assignment

We are looking for a non-smoking, responsible, fit and active couple or single person who loves animals and the country to take care of our house and pets while we are away.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

The responsibilities are to take care of two inside cats, Claire and Fog, and our two dogs, Omber and NovaLee, who likes to take walks in the mornings. Also keep the house clean as would be normal, take care of inside plants and any emergency that might arise. We like to stay in contact with sitters. It helps to be handy.

What are the good features of the property and location

The good features of the property is that it is peaceful and quiet on the western slope of the Sierra Nevadas with a wonderful view. It is between Sacremento and Lake Tahoe with lots of interesting history and beautiful places to see.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Potential house sitters need to consider whether they are comfortable in a rural environment. It can get hot in the summer and the cats use a litter box that needs frequent attention.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Had a great time!

Marlene and I accepted our first assignment from a lovely couple from North East California. We watched over their lovely home, their dog Jake and two cats Leo and Fog. We had lots of email communication back and forth and they were excellent in providing us with all the required information. On the day we arrived, we got to meet them for a few hours. The pets were very easy to look after and to love. Jake loves to go for walks early in the morning when its cool. Then back to have a nap on the front patio. Leo and Fog were very easy to play and cuddle with. We had a great time and we are looking forward to our next adventure.

Shingle Springs, California - We house sat for Cynthia and Howard for two months from mid June to mid August 2017. They have one Hound Dog "Jake", a house cat "Leo", and an adopted feral cat "Fog". The house was unique and comfortable with a view.

Cynthia and Howard were wonderfully friendly and accommodating people. They picked us up from the Sacramento airport and drove us to the airport when the assignment was complete. They provided a pickup truck to get to all the local stores and area attractions. They provided a great introduction upon our arrival of what would be needed of us during our stay that made us feel welcomed and confident. The house was clean, neat, organized, and well equipped for all the maintenance needs any house sitter would need. The property was unique with a tremendous view of the Sierra foothills located at about 1425 feet above sea level and tucked away on an unpaved private road. It is about 3-4 miles from food shopping, restaurants, and major stores for all a sitters needs. It is in a historic area of "gold country" that is worth learning about. The landscape is particularly interesting with lots of things to do. Hiking was our favorite along with winery tours, tastings, and live music venues at the wineries. We would take Jake with us in the back of the pick-up truck and hike as much as 10 miles a day in places like Placerville, Lake Tahoe, The American River, Eldorado State Park, and the rail trail right in Shingle Springs. The house cat, Leo, was very docile and easy to make happy. Leo would often lay at your feet or stare out the kitchen window at the multiple humming birds and quail that would frequent the feeders. There is an irrigation system which takes care of the majority of the watering throughout the yard and orchard. We enjoyed peaches, plums, and figs while we were there. There are also apricots, grapes, and tomatoes that were not in season. Another joy of our assignment was taking care of Fog. This primarily outdoor cat is exceptionally affectionate and never ceased to amuse us. Jake, Leo, and Fog are easy to take care of and love. This house sit was the longest assignment we have had to date and was one of the most memorable. The house is cool and inviting. The location is fun and packed with adventure and history. Last but not least, the owners are very nice and super accommodating. TAKE THE ASSIGNMENT... YOU WON'T BE SORRY THAT YOU DID. Sincerely, Roger and Mary Kirchheim Austin, Texas

Comfortable home, lovely location, wonderful hosts.

Sitting for Cynthia and Howard in January 2012 was a wonderful experience for us. We thoroughly enjoyed the area and the house has every comfort. The location is perfect - quiet, beautiful, and full of wildlife. They were excellent hosts - well organized, friendly, and helpful. We give them our highest recommendation.
