About this assignment

Hello, we are looking for a caring, non smoking couple or single person to look after our home and animals while we are on holiday. If you like the thought of a quiet retreat with a cosy log burner, fabulous views, walks in the countryside, then this is the house sit for you.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

We would ask our sitters to look after our home, our little cat, 6 ducks and 3 rescue hens. We would like our sitter to let the ducks and hens out in the morning, fill their hoppers when necessary, change their water and then shut them in before dark. Feed our 7 year old cat (Toots), let her in and out and give her some cuddles. We also love to feed the wild birds so ask the sitter to fill the feeders when they are empty

What are the good features of the property and location

This is a totally stress free environment and the beautiful setting is very relaxing. Our cottage sits on the Powys/Shropshire border, near to the Offas Dyke path. The front of our home overlooks St Tysilio church (no bells!) and our private back garden has uninterrupted views of the Welsh hills and countryside. Our semi detached cosy cottage has been totally renovated and modernised to created a welcoming 2 bedroomed home but we've retained a lot of the original features. There is also an additional sitting room/office space with WIFI in the garden should you wish to work from home or just sit and admire the view during your stay. It is a beautiful, natural setting for anyone who loves being in the countryside but just 6 miles from Welshpool or Oswestry where you will find supermarkets, banks, cafes and bars etc. The historic town of Shrewsbury is approx. 16 miles by car. We have unlimited broadband, Sky TV and offer free telephone calls within the UK, Our village has a shop, garage, church, and post office all within walking distance. The nearest larger village is Llanymynech which is a couple of miles by car and has a 2 good pubs that serve excellent food, takeaways, shop, post office and cafe. .There is plenty to do locally including several National Trust properties close by such as Powis Castle, Chirk Castle and Attingham Park.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Although not remote you will need a vehicle as there is limited public transport. The bus stops are at the end of the lane and buses run every hour or so in the day and early evening but not at night. We have several friends living close by who will always be on hand should you need any help.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Easy and enjoyable week in Wales

Looking after Mike and Carol’s home was an absolute pleasure. They were extremely welcoming - bacon sandwich on arrival - and provided comprehensive guidance and information on the house, animals and surrounding area. The house was ideal, with everything we needed, and the views are fantastic. The dogs and cats are the friendliest and best behaved animals you will meet. The dogs love regular walks in the adjoining field or along the nearby canal and are otherwise undemanding. The chickens, ducks and guinea fowl require minimal care, with the bonus of fresh eggs each day. The local countryside is beautiful with plenty to see and do. Welshpool and Oswestry are each about 15 minutes away and have all the facilities you may need. Powis Castle in Welshpool and Chirk Castle near Oswestry are worth a visit. Shrewsbury, Llangollen and Lake Vyrnwy are a bit further away but all well worth it for a day out. All in all an excellent week, highly recommended.

Lovely holding in France

Mike and Carol are lovely warm hearted people who welcomed me into their home. Two fun loving dogs showed me the sights, as I took them running and walking along a beautiful canal. They have cats, and an assortment of rabbits, birds hens and it was fun for me to share my time with them. Glorious area to take in some local sights. I highly recommend them.

Great house sit in the Brittany, France area

I had the good fortune to house sit for Carol and Mike in a lovely area in NW France while I was traveling in Europe. The "work" was very reasonable and included snuggling with the kitties and taking the dogs for numerous walks in the woods surrounding their lovely home and in local beaches and forests. They were very helpful with information about the surrounding area and the neighbors are very friendly. Do not miss an opportunity to house sit for Carol and Mike, they are great hosts and now good friends!
