For house sitters & home ownersDo we have an affiliate program? - For house sitters & home owners

Sorry, but unfortunately we don't have an affiliate program. We are just a small mom and pop family business and like to keep our site free of advertising etc. Thanks for thinking of us though :)

For house sitters & home ownersWhat methods of payment do you accept? - For house sitters & home owners

Our site has been set up to receive payment of your annual membership fee by either your debit or credit card. We're paying a hefty percentage of our gross income to Stripe, a third party merchant services provider, to securely process your payments for us while guaranteeing the security of your financial information. If you don't have your own debit or credit card consider asking to use a friend or relative's card as the card's billing address does not have to match your home address for the payment to go through.

Stripe accepts the following credit and/or debit cards: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, as well as a few others depending on where you are located.

Please note that we do not automatically renew your memberships after your account lapses (after twelve months).

If I want to remove my listing from your site before my annual membership expires can I have a refund of the unused portion of my fee? - For house sitters

Once you've joined MindMyHouse.com as a house sitter member you are entitled to create and update your listing as many times as you like over the course of a year. You may choose to hide your listing from view for a good portion of that time.

Once you've joined and you have used your account, we consider your membership fee to have been spent (if it's been more than 30 days and if you have sent messages to home owners).

Please also note that your membership is transferable, so you don't cancel it, you can give it to someone who can use it! To transfer your account to someone else you will have to login to your account area and replace all of your information with theirs. Have fun with it!

Please see our Terms and Conditions for more details.

Also, please be assured that we do not keep your credit card details and would never presume to automatically renew your annual membership. Instead, we sent you an email reminder one month before your account expires, with an invitation to renew your membership. If you go ahead, you will then have to re-enter your credit/debit card details again.

Is the cost of advertising my house sitting services on your site really the cheapest on the web? - For house sitters

Yes, as far as we can tell, our annual fee of US$29 for house sitters is the cheapest on the web. Our competitors charge the following for a similar service:

  • Housecarers – US$50 per year
  • Trusted House Sitters – US$169 per year
  • Nomador – US$99 per year

Note that these figures in US dollars were correct on 1 Jan 2023. We've also been US$29 since 2023, and US$20 from 2022 to 2005 (When we started).

For house sitters & home ownersWhy didn't I receive my activation email? Why aren't I receiving my alert emails? Why aren't I getting responses to my requests for customer support? - For house sitters & home owners

If emails you were expecting from MindMyHouse haven't arrived in your inbox, it may be caused by one of the following issues:

You accidently entered in the wrong email address when you registered (it happens)
If you think this has happened to you, contact us at help@mindmyhouse.com and we can help.

Your email account provider may be blocking our emails to you.
Yes spam is a scourge - but emails from MindMyHouse (while they are often automatically generated) aren't! In an effort to combat spam many email accounts (especially those connected with work places and academic institutions) have very efficient spamblocking technology in place that may be inadvertently preventing you from receiving important emails from us.

Private free email service providers also offer various levels of spam filtering that may be doing the same damage. If anything in the following list seems to apply to you, your email account software or provider may be using spam blocking technology which is preventing our emails from reaching you:

  • If you have subscribed to our mailing list but aren't receiving our newsletter, MindMyHouse News, in your inbox.
  • If your requests for customer support seem to be going unanswered.
  • If you haven't received a single email telling you that a new house sitting assignment (or house sitter) has become available in your preferred areas.
  • If you registered with our service but the activation email never arrived.

So what's the solution? You will need to ensure that any emails from support@mindmyhouse, help@mindmyhouse.com, do-not-reply@mindmyhouse.com and info@mindmyhouse.com are allowed to bypass your SPAM filter. Usually it's a simple matter of adding these addresses into your email program preferences to allow them to be received.

Also, avoid using your work or academic email address with MindMyHouse as these accounts are most likely to have over-zealous spam filters. It's best to use a free public domain account such as those available with Yahoo Mail or GMail.

Please note that your email address can't actually be harvested from our website as all contact details are hidden behind a password-protected area. So as long as you don't write your email address in the body of your listing (and you don't publish that address anywhere else on the web) you're safe from receiving the endless Viagra listings (aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh) at that address.

Note that you don't need to re-register with our service to change your email address. Simply login to your member account area and choose 'Update my contact details'. Type your new email address into the relevant field and it's done!

For house sitters & home ownersI've received a registration email containing an activation link URL. Why doesn't clicking on the URL or pasting it into the address field of my browser activate my account? - For house sitters & home owners

When you first register as a member with MindMyhouse.com you'll receive an email containing an activation link (URL). You'll need to login to your email account to access this email and then click on the link (or copy and paste it into the address field of your browser) to activate your membership account with MindMyHouse.com. This is part of a system of security protocols we've set up to both validate your email address and safeguard the security of your password-protected membership account area. When you click on the link (or copy and paste it into the address field of your browser), please check that you have the complete URL and that the link doesn't have any spaces in it. If it was too long to fit on one line of the email message, your email program may have introduced a space into it, making it useless. The complete URL will be around 94 characters long, containing letters and a question mark followed by a mixture of letters, symbols and numbers. If you're still unable to activate your account contact us via our support form

Can we house sit (and join) as a couple (or family)? - For house sitters

As with every house sitting assignment, many things are negotiable with the home owner.

As a couple, you are probably able to bring more to a house sitting assignment than as a single person – that's a bonus for those home owners who are looking for a couple!

As a family, some of our home owner members prefer childless couples to mind their pets and homes in their absence. Having said that, we have many families with children advertise their assignments with us successfully.

For house sitters & home ownersThe country I need to list in my listing isn't listed in the pull-down menu. - For house sitters & home owners

The vast majority of house sitting assignments are in the wealthy countries of the west: Canada and USA, New Zealand and Australia, UK and Europe and South Africa. Due to space reasons we've shortened our list of countries to reflect this fact. If you want to select a country such as Ghana or Brazil for your listing, simply choose Africa or South America from the pull-down menu. You can then include more detail in your listing about what you are specifically looking for.

Can I request a refund? - For house sitters

We pride ourselves on having a completely transparent business model. To this end: anyone can see all of our listings at any time. We also provide a very good overview of what a membership entails. For these reasons we believe that our members should have everything they need to confidently take out a membership with us before they hand over their small annual membership fee. For this reason, we don't routinely offer a refund on the small price of the joining fee with us. However, if you do have a valid reason for requesting a refund, and it is within 30 days of purchase, and you haven't used your account (ie. haven't sent messages to home owners), we are happy to issue a full refund (within 30 days of purchase).

Lastly, please be assured that we do not keep your credit card details and would never presume to automatically renew your annual membership. Instead, we sent you an email reminder one month before your account expires, with an invitation to renew your membership. If you go ahead, you will then have to re-enter your credit/debit card details again.

What is the minimum or maximum age to join as a house sitter? - For house sitters

Our minimum age for joining as a house sitter is 18 (and we have no maximum age). Please also note that by joining our service, you won't be committing to anything.

Please note that the way that MindMyHouse works is by bringing home owners and house sitters together. What home owners and house sitters agree to after they have made contact is often private and we are not always privy to that information. If you (or they) have particular expectations (eg. age, payment, food etc), it's best to ensure that you and the home owner communicate your expectations with each other before you agree to house sit for them.
