About this sitter
Maureen & Keith could be just the couple you are looking for to house/pet sit your home. We are an active married couple, non-smokers, recently returned from South Africa, having emigrated there in 1968. House sitting has given us the opportunity to see & explore those parts of the UK that we have never seen. We consider ourselves to be honest, responsible, trustworthy & totally reliable.
Why they want to house sit
Most importantly, we are animal lovers, cats and dogs, but especially dogs, having been involved with German Shepherds since 1974. We still have 2 dogs back in SA and we miss them very much. You would actually be doing us a favour, allowing us to inter-act with your pets, taking them for walks, playing ball etc. If the location is rural & in the countryside, so much the better. We love to take long walks in new surroundings, exploring the countryside & local culture. House sitting assignments also offer the opportunity of meeting different people & forging new friendships. We will look after your house & pets as if they were our own and also treat your home and personal space with respect.
Their experience
We have done house/pet sits for friends in South Africa for about the last 8/9 years, in different parts of the country. Regular assignments start in November & last through Christmas. Maureen has sat for a friend with 19 dogs and 11 cats and whelped litters. Maureen has also run a boarding kennel for 4 years and transported the animals between home & kennels whilst the owner was overseas. We have experience in looking after dogs, cats, birds, sheep, Welsh ponies, chickens/hens, fish, guinea pigs & rabbits. We are both keen gardeners and have the required knowledge for garden & pool maintenance. We have owned our own home since 1974, so we know what is involved in looking after & running a house.
Since joining "mind my house" in July 2016, we have undertaken more than 30 separate house sits, in Ireland, Scotland, but the majority being in England & Wales. Most of the sits over the past 12 months have been repeat sits. References are available from any or all of these house sits.
What can they bring to the assignment
We are experienced dog handlers having bred, trained, showed & handled GSD's for many years. No dog is too big or small. We believe we have the necessary experience to look after your pets as we would our own. Any garden maintenance (mowing, watering, strimming, weeding) or other light work (mail collection etc) would not be a problem. We are un-encumbered here so can react to any sitting opportunities within 24 hours. References can be supplied direct from our regular house sits, in addition to those from friends & employers. We both have a clear criminal record clearance from the South African Police and Keith also has a DBS check.
We are currently full booked until mid-January 2019.

Amazing couple, from start to finish
This was my first house sit from MindMyHouse (or in fact, anyone outside of my direct friends looking after our house and animals). Maureen and her husband Keith were amazing from start to finish. We met with a few months to go before I was due to be away, and clicked immediately because I have three dogs, two of which are German Shepherds, which Keith and Maureen are both very experienced with having trained them in the past. They are also both from South Africa, so my trip being TO South Africa was another great talking point! At the time of going away, I was quite nervous and didn't know what to expect - its' a strange feeling leaving your house and beloved animals in the hands of relative strangers, but Keith and Maureen came over the day before we were due to leave and spent the afternoon and evening with us, as well as the following morning before we left, to make sure they understood the house routine and the dogs behavior etc. We left some shelf and freezer space for them, and they brought their own essentials - I offered to them that they could use anything of ours (food and drink wise etc) but they were very respectful and didn't seem to have used much of anything! They completely respected our privacy and looked after the house like it was their own. The animals were loved and cuddled on demand and any dog poo cleaned up regularly (lets face it, no one wants to have to. pick up after someone else's dogs but this wasn't a problem at all for Keith!). They kept us updated with any news and with status updates on the dogs, as well as got in touch when they needed to - conscious not to disturb us on holiday too much. We returned to a very clean and tidy house (probably cleaner than when we left!) and could not have been happier with the help Maureen and Keith gave us - peace of mind our house and animals were ok whilst we were gone. We'd have them back in a heartbeat and couldn't be more grateful. I HIGHLY recommend them.
