About this sitter

Originally from the U.S., we are married expats who live in El Retiro, Colombia. We had been devoted pet owners for 30-plus years until 2023. That's when we lost the last of our fur babies, our beloved golden retriever Rosie (she lived to 13).

Prior to relocating to Colombia, we lived in Boquete, Panama, where we volunteered with the local animal rescue organization and in Panama's most successful spay/neuter clinic, helping with the recovery of dogs and cats after surgery. On numerous occasions, we have taken care of our friends' pets when they travel. We have always loved our friends' dogs and cats as much as our own!

Until last year, we were “owner” clients of both Mind My House and Trusted Housesitters, and we have recruited sitters many times to look after our dogs while we traveled. Therefore, we understand the requirements and are keenly aware of what we would look for in an ideal sitter. That perspective, we believe, makes us even stronger candidates as sitters.

Our years of home ownership, plus our time living aboard and sailing our own 42-foot boat, have given us plenty of experience with maintenance and upkeep. We have also owned and managed rental properties with tenants. We can handle routine maintenance and light repairs, and we'll keep your garden ship-shape. We're honest, organized and reliable, and we'd be happy to provide copies of full and clean FBI background checks upon request. We are non-smokers and fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

Now that we are no longer pet owners ourselves, we have even more freedom to travel. We thrive on adventure and experiencing new places, and the ability to combine that with our love of animals makes us very excited about pet- and house-sitting.

John and Susan took care of our beloved Norfolk Terrier for an entire month when we were out of the country. Not only did they do a terrific job but they even sent pictures to show how much fun Teddy was having with his surrogate parents. I cannot recommend them too highly as they are loving, organized and meticulous.
