About this sitter

My husband Stephan & I are soon to be fully retired and looking forward to traveling a bit! We have owned our home in coastal NC for 33 years and appreciate how vital it is to have someone take care of things when we're away for extended periods. We like both rural and urban settings, prefer areas that are walkable, scenic & quiet. However, we also appreciate that the perks of city life are a fair trade for a little hustle & bustle! Stephan attended university in the US & has resided here since 1978, but is a native of Germany. He lived in County Cork, Ireland as a teenager. He's fluent in German & has a working knowledge of French. I'm a North Carolina native and have a decent understanding of basic Spanish. If taking care of animals is part of the plan, no problem! We both grew up with pets and feel that life is not the same without them! Our furry kids have always been treated as equal family members.

Why they want to house sit

We are longtime world travelers and know that house sitting and being in a neighborhood or community-offers a uniquely different experience as opposed to simply traveling as tourists. It certainly gives one an opportunity to see things from a more local perspective, which we think is a huge plus.

Their experience

We have owned our home since 1990. Everything has always been well maintained, updated and keep in excellent working order. We live on almost an acre in coastal NC and take pride in our home & surrounding property. During 2 five-month sailing trips to the Bahamas, we allowed house sitters to care for our home and it was a great experience. We are also frequent users of AirBnB, former AirBnB superhosts & current landlords.

What can they bring to the assignment

I am tidy & conscientious! As an AirBnB host for 5 years, I maintained the designation of "Superhost" the entire time. My ratings for cleanliness were 5 stars-always! As the sole housekeeper for the listing, a 3 bedroom-2 bath townhome near Wrightsville Beach, NC.-I took great pride in keeping it spotless. My husband Stephan, is a retired chemical engineer and accomplished sailor. He traveled the world during his 30+ year career as a global product manager in water disinfection for Siemens & then Evoquoa. Since he retired in 2019, he's operated a handyman business. From electrical to plumbing, carpentry to masonry & everything in between-I honestly think there's nothing he can't do or fix! Finally, we feel that open, honest communication is vital for all parties. We take pride in being good listeners and effective communicators and have no problem clarifying any matters that may be unclear. We know that if folks were house sitting for us, we'd want them to be crystal clear on all of the details so they'd be comfortable & so would we!
