About this sitter

Hi there! I'm Alex and I'd love to show your house and animals the care they deserve. I'm 23 years old and just graduated with a Masters in Geography at the London School of Economics and Political Science. I've accepted a research fellowship for the coming year, but do not start that position until October. I am openminded and passionate about the outdoors, animals, art, and reading and see this next moment as an opportunity to tap back into those passions after a long year of intense academic work. As I move into this transitional phase of my life, I'm looking for a few things in a house sit: service to those who I can help, a quiet (but new) environment with opportunities for walking and physical activity, and the opportunity to deepen my passion and care for animals. I'm also experienced with gardening and farm work as a way to reconnect with the land--this is something that has been an important part of my life in the past which has also fallen to the wayside over the last year in the city. I want to offer care for plants, animals, and a home as if they were my own and I do so in exchange for the opportunity to get out of the city for a short time.

Why they want to house sit

House sitting is the perfect thing for me at this time. As a geographer and a student of place, I hold a deep respect for and interest in the way that people consider a place their home. I have a genuine passion for taking care of homes and pets, and I understand the importance of maintaining a safe and comfortable environment in your absence. As I've mentioned above, I'm about to enter a transitional moment--after school, but before full time work. I view this moment as an opportunity to get to know a new place and new animals while providing peace of mind to homeowners. My highest priority is ensuring your property and pets are well cared for. Moreover, I see house sitting as a chance to explore new neighbourhoods and communities, experiencing life from a different perspective while providing a valuable service. My previous clients have praised my reliability, attention to detail, and proactive communication, which I believe are crucial for a successful house sitting experience.

Their experience

Yes. I grew up working on farms and spending my time in and around all sorts of old, quirky, buildings and animals that needed care and maintenance from me. I am comfortable around all animals and tend to have a keen ability to build a trusting rapport with them. I've worked with and am comfortable caring for sick and elderly animals that require complex care routines multiple times (I'm specifically experienced with cats, horses, and dogs). As a university student, being a caretaker for homes and their animals was one way that I could make a little bit of money as a student and help out family friends, but I started doing work like this over 10 years ago. In this time, I’ve developed a meticulous approach to upkeep, security, and pet care. I enjoy maintaining gardens, keeping the house clean, and ensuring everything runs smoothly. You can trust me to respect and care for your place and animals as if they were my very own.

What can they bring to the assignment

Besides my experience in home and pet care, which I've described above, I take pride in keeping homes in top condition. From regular cleaning and tidying to handling minor repairs and maintenance tasks, I ensure your home remains just as you left it. I am also experienced in garden care and can tend to your plants, ensuring they stay healthy and vibrant. Additionally, your home’s security is my priority. I am vigilant about locking doors and windows, setting alarms, and keeping an eye out for any unusual activity.
I also know the importance of communication. I believe in keeping homeowners informed and reassured. I will provide regular updates on your home and pets, including photos and detailed reports, so you can enjoy your time away without worry. I am also easily reachable for any queries or instructions you might have. On the other hand, I pride myself on my self-sufficiency and ability to devise creative solutions to problems. I understand that every home and pet is unique, and I am committed to adapting to your specific needs and preferences. Whether it’s adhering to a specific schedule, accommodating last-minute changes, or learning about your pet’s quirks, I am flexible and responsive.
