About this sitter

Hi, I'm Laura. I am 69 years old, single, and in decent health. I prefer a longer-term sit (at least two weeks) in an urban or suburban home with access to activities and cultural experiences.
I love to play pickleball, and it would be great to have access to local courts.
I am a non-smoker and a non-drinker. Originally from Portland, Oregon, I retired to Mexico 11 years ago. I lived in Patzcuaro, Michoacan for almost 10 years, taking yearly trips to Spain, Portugal, and many locations around Mexico and the US. I am currently in southern Arizona with my family. I'm ready for a move and would love to house sit in a variety of areas to explore the possibility of relocation. (Disclaimer - my body can't take extreme heat or extreme humidity).

Why they want to house sit

I am exploring my options for relocation - in Latin America, Spain, Portugal, and the US.
House-sitting would allow me to 'try out' various locales to see what might be the best fit for a more permanent move.

Their experience

When I moved to Mexico 11 years ago, I spent the first year sitting in two homes in different towns. It helped me to get my bearings and become accustomed to a new culture and language. Unfortunately, I didn't hold on to the letters of reference I received from both owners. Although I don't consider myself fluent, my Spanish is adequate for most circumstances.
I have rented homes in and around Patzcuaro for 10 years and have always made improvements. I take to heart a saying from my mother. "If you always leave things better than you found them, you will always be welcome back". I have tried to do that wherever I stay, even in hotels.

What can they bring to the assignment

I am conscientious, respectful, clean, tidy, and good with animals. I will treat your home and sweet pets as though they were my own. I have lots of personal experience with dogs and cats and will follow your directions about how you would like them cared for.
I am culturally aware and a good communicator (a retired psychotherapist). As a former long-term homeowner, I have experience in basic home repair and maintenance. If I can't fix it myself, I know who to call.
