About this sitter
My wife and I live at 9100 ft. elevation (2763 meters) in the remote mountains of Southern Colorado, USA. We have owned and maintained our own urban and rural homes for more than thirty years with and without animals. We designed and built our current ranch home and live on 35 acres (14 hectares) of remote grazing land and often care for neighbors' animals when they are away.
Why they want to house sit
In addition to saving a little money, we prefer to stay in one place for an extended period in order to get to know the local people and culture. We have an affinity and empathy for animals of all kinds and enjoy being with and caring for them. Hotels are impersonal, we do not like that type of traveling and prefer to come to know other people like owners and locals more personally.
Their experience
We are experienced with minor home repairs and maintenance, pool control, and the care of dogs, cats, some reptiles, fish and horses.
What can they bring to the assignment
We are ultra responsible and compassionate non-smokers who care for everything we own and even more for the things that belong to others. Your home and animals will remain in the very best condition while you are away.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Stephen and Karen! This was the longest sit I’ve ever requested—two consecutive two-week stays with a week-long break in between. Stephen graciously agreed to do both, which worked out perfectly for everyone. He cared for my dog, Twix, during the first two weeks, took a short break to visit friends, and returned for the second sit, joined by his wife, Karen, for the final week. While this began as a dog-sitting arrangement, it quickly turned into a new friendship! It’s funny that Twix helped me connect with such amazing people. Stephen and Twix bonded immediately, and I returned to find Twix more relaxed and content than I’d ever seen after being away. Stephen and Karen are truly generous and thoughtful people who go far beyond the usual expectations of pet sitting. During their stay, Stephen fixed a broken garage cabinet and a damaged sculpture and thoughtfully surprised me with gifts: a butter dish, a damper pedal for my keyboard, and a Mr. Coffee machine for guests since I’m a tea drinker. He wouldn’t let me reimburse him, no matter how I tried. Then, when I returned from my long trip, Karen welcomed me home with a delicious homemade dinner for all of us to enjoy. You can absolutely trust Stephen and Karen with your home and pets. They care deeply about the well-being of the animals they watch and the spaces they stay in. I came home to a happy dog, thriving plants, and a spotless house. If you’re lucky enough to have them as sitters, you’ll know you’ve found true gems. They’ll treat your home and pets as if they were their own—and you may just gain wonderful new friends in the process!
