About this sitter

We are Sue and Teresa and we have been housesitting since 2012. We have met a wonderful array of pets and their humans since we started and housesitting has enriched our lives enormously. We have been together for over thirty years and and as well as animals, we love nature, travel, hiking and exploring. Neither of us smoke and Teresa is vegetarian.
Our first housesit was looking after a Maine Coon cat in Toronto for five months. Since then, we have cared for a wide range of dogs and cats, both in the UK and abroad. We housesit full-time with the exception of taking time out to travel.

Why they want to house sit

Although we love animals and grew up with pets in our families, we don't have pets of our own due to our nomadic lifestyle. Consequently, we love nothing more than spending time with the pets that we care for and housesitting allows us to do this. We also love to explore the local area and immerse ourselves in the culture of the country we are housesitting in.

Their experience

We have carried out over 500 housesits since we started in 2012. Our wide variety and depth of housesitting experience has given us a great insight into pet-care and what is involved in ensuring that pets feel happy, secure and loved while their owners are absent. Our experience has included looking after all ages of pets from puppies and kittens to senior pets. We have also cared for those with special needs, behavioural issues and pets that require regular medication for asthma and other conditions. We have also looked after blind and deaf cats and dogs and are aware of the issues they have to deal with.

What can they bring to the assignment

We are clean, tidy, unobtrusive and take safety and security very seriously, having the utmost respect for the property we stay in. We are also resourceful, reliable and responsible. We can water plants, take in parcels and if there is anything else that we can assist you with while you are away, don't hesitate to let us know.

Due to the fact that we are location independent, pet owners can be confident in the knowledge that we will spend lots of time with their pets and that they will recieve an abundance of attention and cuddles. We work hard to gain the trust of the pet we are caring for and have usually established a bond (even with the most nervous of pets!) within a short time.

We talk to the pet owners to ensure that we are aware of any safety issues within the home and garden and where the pet is allowed within the property/grounds. If a dog is involved we will find out about such facts as where the dog is walked, for how long and how it reacts to other dogs. If we are caring for a cat, we establish whether it has to be locked in at night and whether there are any potentially troublesome neighbourhood cats! It is very important to us to communicate and establish everything we need to know about the pet's safety, welfare and routine. Because there are two of us, we are able to cover for each other in the unlikely event of an emergency.

We are excellent communicaters and can stay in touch with the pet-owners while they are away should they wish us to, sending regular updates and photographs.

We understand that your pet is part of the family and for the time we are in your home, they become part of our family. You can go away safe in the knowledge that your pet will be chilled and content on your return. We are fully insured with Protectivity Pet Insurance.

This is the first time we have used a pet and house sitting service for our two dogs Annie and Ellie. They were recommended to us by a family member who suggested we email them for further information. They communicated with us from beginning to end which was very reassuring. Prior to their staying here, they came to our home to meet the dogs and we discussed various aspects of their routines and the location of dog food and shared other vital pieces of information. It was clear that both were pet-loving people. To say they were a godsend is an understatement as we were naturally concerned that, owing to both dogs being elderly, there would be a few teething problems. However, they provided the highest level of care by being sensitive to the needs of both dogs (Annie, a Cavalier is deaf and Ellie, a retired Guide Dog, very anxious) and reassured us by sending photos and texts. In essence they were amazing. Sue and Teresa looked after our home to a high standard and watered the plants. On our return both dogs looked very happy and relaxed which was a wonderful end to our very much needed and enjoyable holiday. Thank you once again from the bottom of my heart.

As a veterinary surgeon, I am probably more sensivtive than the regular pet parent because I have seen what has happened to pets when they are not watched carefully... so when I found Sue and Teresa, I was pleasantly surprised by how mature, responsive and kind they were. They stayed in my home and watched my special needs dog (he has severe seperation anxiety and reactiveness to other dogs). I was nervous for them because I know he could be a handful. They had to give lots of medications, be mindful when walking, deal with his barking at the neighbors constantly, etc. They kept me posted every day. They also left my house cleaner than I left it! Teresa and Sue have looked after my house and cats 8-10 times now. I don’t trust anyone else to have them – we even book our holidays around their availability now – if they aren’t available then we go when they are! We were new to the world of house/pet sitting and initially quite apprehensive. We are so happy with how everything turned out. Sue and Teresa are wonderful cat and house sitters. We feel very lucky that they were available to look after our 3 lively kittens during our long trip. We met up with them beforehand and immediately felt reassured that everything would be in safe hands while we were away. They have so much experience of looking after different pets and staying in a whole variety of different types of houses, and clearly are very practical and capable people. The kittens quickly bonded with them and didn’t seem initially too impressed to see us back! Sue and Teresa communicated regularly with us via WhatsApp and sent many photos and videos of our kittens up to their antics. If we messaged them, they always replied straight away. Knowing everything was fine at home allowed us to really relax and enjoy our time away. It was such a relief. One of our kittens had been very unwell in the weeks before we left and needed to have medication during the first part of their stay, and may have needed to go back to the vets. They took all this calmly in their stride and I knew that anything needed would be handled sensibly and in the best way possible. They also were good humoured about the ridiculously long list of instructions I had written them...! When we got back, we were greeted by three incredibly healthy and happy kittens and a completely clean and tidy house. We are hoping that we might be lucky enough to book Sue and Teresa again in the future, but we know we’ll need to get in early as they understandably get very booked up!

Teresa and Sue looked after Connie, my female indoor 13-year-old cat, and a small bungalow house by Lake Ontario, Canada, for 4.5 months. This was their first visit to Toronto, Canada from their hometown of Brighton, England. They adjusted to the Canadian life very well and ably lived up to my expectations. Connie was very happy; she got much attention, exercised, and slept with them at night. The house had three small gardens with tall trees but Teresa and Sue were most conscientious with cutting grass, raking leaves and shovelling the snow. They bought their own household and food supplies even though I left some to tide them by. They dealt with unforeseen breakdowns (an old toaster and a clogged sink drain) with great care and sensitivity. When I returned, I found everything in the house as clean and functional as I had left for them. Connie still misses them.

I met Sue King through Teresa Adams, who was one of my colleagues when we worked together for Sussex Police and I have known them both for over ten years. Teresa and Sue have been looking after my property and beloved cat when I have been away on holiday for nearly five years now and I would have no hesitation in recommending them. I always used to worry about my cat when I went away, but Teresa and Sue have alleviated my concerns with their attention to detail and their responsible attitude to looking after my house and cat. Teresa and Sue were highly recommended to me by a friend of a good friend of theirs. We have two dogs, one who is 16 years old. This was the first time we had ever used dog sitters, as in the past family members had always obliged. However, Zulu, my 16-year-old lab now needs a lot of care and attention, more a carer than a dog sitter. After meeting the ladies, I was very confident that I would have no need to worry whilst abroad. Teresa and Sue were amazing.
