A Loving Friend for Your Pets (and Plants)

Greetings home owner and fellow pet lover. I am in my mid-50s, Canadian, with EU passport (Irish) and traveling full time for the coming year. I am new to THIS platform, but I have done several house and pet sits through another platform. I am not sure I can mention that platform here, but I can share reviews with you!

My employment is online and I also have personal writing projects that I will be researching, so I will be in your home, spending time with your pets and not out doing tourism. Of course, I do explore the area, which is one reason I like to have longer sits, because I feel a strong responsibility to be present for the pets.

This year, I would love to have some time in Germany, Poland and Ireland this year to reconnect with my heritage. I lived in Mexico for almost 10 years and speak Spanish reasonably well. I also speak a little bit of French and Polish and am learning Italian and German. I'm a non-smoker and I value a clean home. I do love to garden, and especially love when there are fruit trees and vegetable gardens to take care of – I will make sure to preserve the harvest for you if you happen to be travelling at that time!

Why they want to house sit

For me, life is all about exploration. I don't need to own many belongings; it's more important for me to have experiences, learn about other cultures, and get to know other perspectives. When I travel, I prefer longer stays. Of course, I like to find out about the history, see museums – I particularly love art museums and architecture – but I stay away from the tourist sites (unless they are culturally important) and I prefer to know the neighborhoods and local markets. My days are simple! So, house-sitting is perfect. Because I mostly travel alone, pets make life more rich, and I love to give them attention.. and of course receive their love, in return!

Their experience

Yes – throughout my life (since the age of 12!) I have enjoyed taking the opportunities to care for the pets of friends and family when they travelled. I also have reviews on another platform that I can share. Also, for many years I have worked in private homes: I did real estate photography for a couple of years, and for years (and occasionally still do)I work as a private chef and caterer, given full access to my clients homes on a regular basis. You can be sure I am trustworthy!

Please note: I have never been asked for a police check before, but I will be applying for one as I realize some people do feel it's necessary and I don't want this to be a barrier. Unfortunately, the processing time is 1 month in Canada. (writing this Jan 2, 2025)

What can they bring to the assignment

For most of my life, I had pets, and I give them a lot of love. When I am in your home, I honor the trust that is given in this exchange, and in caring for your pets, I communicate concerns and needs directly. I will work with you to reinforce training for dogs and will provide you with updates etc about your pet. I like this to become an exchange of mutual respect, if not friendship. I am proud to say I have been invited back to a few of my past sits.
