Plant & critter luvin’ academic looking for internships in the city!

About this sitter

I’m a dog mom of 9 yrs (great dane mix - who needs both a lot of running outdoors and a lot of cuddles) and previously a cat mom of 12 yrs (he was an abandoned tom cat i picked up in FL who ended up being chronically ill but outlived the drs projections for 5 yrs in nearly perfect health!). I’m also a plant mom of about 50+ (who’s counting) plants, some bigger than me. I moved them all from cambridge ma 3 yrs ago when i came to western ma for grad school. I’m also a human mom . I’ve got a 13 yo son who will be with his dad all of july and with me all of august. he’s quiet and even more of an animal lover than i, he likes reading, dnd and of course video games. He will attend camp while i’m working. I’m studying regional planning and landscape architecture with a focus on sustainable urban food systems. I appreciate the arts, know almost every neighborhood in the boston area (due to my work as a civil/human rights canvasser for two years before grad school) intimately and love the city. I lived in cambridge for 13 years and miss it dearly. i love walking in the city and going for hikes in the woods of concord or south of boston. I’m also happy to chill with pets that don’t go outside as i will be working on my thesis this summer as well.

Why they want to house sit

I’m looking for internships/jobs in cambridge/boston for the summer with the ultimate goal of moving back east after graduation. I must maintain my apartment in western ma and don’t want to pay rent in two places for the summer. even if i don’t get a summer job I’d love to be back east for the summer. My dog and plants will be house sat by a family member who wants to stay in western ma. my family (sister and nieces are) also out east in dracut so it would be lovely to see more of them. I currently work remotely so if i don’t get an internship (there are a few i’ve got my eye on!) i’ll be working remotely from home (for the same company i did canvassing for back in 2020-2022).

Yes! both with my own animals and house sitting for my professor and his partner. I’ve also got a many dog friends that i sometimes walk/babysit. :)

What can they bring to the assignment

Active lifestyle.. ie lots of walks for those that enjoy them! Years of experience with both dogs and cats (including older, ill pets). Giving meds, schedules, keeping things orderly, plant or garden care!! Respect for your space. I always try to leave a place better than i found it and have worked in peoples homes (before undergrad i was a professional organizer and house cleaner and also helped run an airbnb out of someone’s home in cambridge for 4 yrs) i understand the sanctity of homes and the trust it takes to open your home to a stranger. I’ve been lucky to benefit from others sharing their spaces (in travels in egypt and spain) and feel it’s an incredible gift to give someone the ability to experience a place by opening your home. I hope to repay the favor by taking good care of your space and beloved animal friends/plants. I’m also too focused on my health and research to be distracted by all the things the city has to offer. I know and love the city but am not looking for novelty but a cozy place to get work done and rest in the hum of the city.
