About this assignment

A person or couple/two friends who absolutely love cats. Mumrik is adopted and is a sweet but vocal soul who talks to you and likes to hang out. He is a little scared of loud noises. He has a cat flap and likes to spend time outside. I expect my sitters to be considerate of my things but also feel at home.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Mind my cat and house. Water some indoor plants twice a week. House sitting in the spring doesn’t require much. Litter box to be emptied once a day (he doesn’t always use it)and the whole box changed once a week. Check the mail box.

What are the good features of the property and location

The property is a comfortable 160 m2 house on a quiet street divided into a house/apartment. There is a larger and a smaller bedroom, a large living room upstairs and a connecting(5 steps)living room downstairs. No one lives in the apartment. There are two toilets, a shower upstairs and one by the sauna.

There is a fireplace but it’s a bit tricky and I’d ask you not to use it unless you know what to do.

Åsa is a beautiful sea side resort 50 k's south of Gothenburg. I live 10 min by bike or 30 minutes walk to the ocean. Food store and gym is also 10 minutes away. There is a bus service but it’s irregular. I live 750 meters from the train station that takes you quickly to Gothenburg or Varberg There are a couple of basic restaurants. There is also a very unique nature reserve called Nasbokrok, several lakes, a beautiful castle(Tjolöholms slott)nearby. Kungsbacka is a 20 minutes drive away, Varberg roughly 40 minutes.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Please only apply if you really like cats. Mumrik came to me as a 3 year old. The two previous owners didn’t want him for different reasons. In the last family he didn’t get along with the other cat. He is big and gentle and much more of a lover that a fighter but he will defend himself if needed. He use to be an indoor cat but is getting use to going out. I think he is a Siberian Neva Masquerade with a little rag doll thrown in. This means that he is a smart, talkative and sensitive cat who likes company. He can be left alone over the day but not over night. Please take care of my cat and enjoy a break by the sea!

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Lovely peaceful home with adorable cat

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Maria's house with the adorable Mumrick. Mumrick is a pleasant companion and Maria was really lovely to communicate with. We felt very prepared for our stay from her excellent communication and comfortable in her home which has everything you could need. There was a roommate too who was very easy to stay with, we didn't feel a lack of privacy at all. Mumrick and the calm nature will replenish your soul on this peaceful house sit.

A unique housesit

Staying on Maria's boat was a great housesitting experience. The area was lovely, with many restaurants, bars and shops within walking distance, with nice beaches and cycling opportunities nearby. The boat itself was modern and bright, and very comfortable. The deck was a lovely space to sit and take in the sights and sounds of the marina. Maria made us feel at home right away, and was in regular contact to make sure we were settling in and to answer any questions we had. We had a wonderful two weeks in Stenungsund, and would wholeheartedly recommend the experience to other sitters.

Ten days in Åsa

My wife and I answered a call for 10 a day housesitting in Åsa, a small community south of Gothenburg, Sweden, some 350 km from our home and we accepted it as a training for a longer sit abroad. The duties included care for the post-box, in- and out-door plants but no animals. House and conditions were as described, somewhat better than expected really. Åsa has a grocery store (ICA), some pizzerias etc and a camping site with a sand shore all within a 15 minute walk. We had a great time there and no unexpected demands afterwards.
