About this assignment

I live in New Braunfels which I think is a wonderful small city. In addition to having the largest waterpark in the U.S. right here, you can also go tubing in the rivers and swimming in local lakes such as Canyon Lake. Plus there's an amazing number of places to go out to eat and listen to music. Close by are both San Antonio with the wonderful Riverwalk and Austin with its music scene. And if you like kayaking or paddleboarding, there is plenty of that around here as well. You can also enjoy that up in Austin on Town Lake at the Rowing Center.

I'm looking for a couple (or possibly an individual) who would be available this spring or summer. I have two very easy animals.  Emmy is an older dog who just needs you to love her and take her out a few times a day and Trip is a chill, 3-legged cat who goes out in the morning and needs to come in before dark.

The house has plenty of AC (3 different AC units!) so that it makes a nice refuge after being out on the river or just exploring. I also have a small kayak that you would be welcome to use and there are plenty of places to kayak in the area. The biggest waterpark in the U.S. is in New Braunfels (Schlitterbahn). And there are a lot of events going on all over the area. New Braunfels is near rivers and lakes, and also within an easy drive of both San Antonio and Austin.

My home is fairly close to downtown New Braunfels (but not close enough to walk so you'd need a car) but sits on 6 wooded acres so you feel like you are really in the country. The house is a good size and you would have your own area with bedroom and bath. The two guest bedrooms are on one side of the house with its own bath, and at the other end of the house from the master bedroom. You will need a car to get around the area as there is no public transportation.  New Braunfels has some great tubing and kayaking. Historic towns like Gruene are less than 10 minutes away with the Guadalupe River, Gruene Hall with free music just about everyday and the Grist Mill for dining, as well as historic cities such as Fredericksburg and Wimberley. San Antonio and Austin are a short driving distance so you can enjoy both city and country while you're here. This would be perfect for a couple who want to get to know the area or for someone who has friends and would like to spend time visiting them.

If you're interested, please contact me. I have had many housesitters in the past and it's been a great experience. Look forward to hearing from you.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Basically just taking care of the animals. My 3-legged cat is easy - he goes out during the day and comes in at night. If it's raining or real hot, he might want to come in early. You would need to clean the litter box very occasionally and feed him. Dog would just need to go out a few times during the day. She can sleep in her crate at night or just on her bed. The house is a good size and you would have your own area with bedroom and bath. Nothing else to take care of.

What are the good features of the property and location

Beautiful location right outside the small city of New Braunfels.  There is a lot to do in New Braunfels and the surrounding area. My home is on a dead-end street and I have 6 acres of wooded land, although I am close to downtown New Braunfels and the great town of Gruene which has a whole lot going on - markets, live music everyday at Gruene Hall (mostly free), waterparks, tubing, kayaking. Because the house is on 6 wooded acres you feel like you are really in the country. But with historic towns like Gruene and Wimberley only minutes away with the Guadalupe River and Gruene Hall for music and the Grist Mill for dining, and San Antonio and Austin within a short driving distance, you can enjoy both city and country while you're here. Both San Antonio and Austin have a million things to do as well and both are an easy drive.

The house is set up so that the guest bedroom is on one side of the house with its own bathroom. Have had many housesitters and it's been a great experience.

You would need a car since there is no public transportation in the area. Perfect area for a vacation or for someone looking to get to know the area for a possible move here.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Main issue is having someone around to care for the animals. Good gig for a couple or single person who wants to get to know the area. Also, if you do remote work this sit would work out well. Nice quiet place to get things done.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Testimonials

New Braunfels Hill Country Home

Elaine is a very kind and generous person. She provided detailed written care information of pets and home with # for neighbor contacts if needed. She quickly communicated/responded to me when I had any questions. Her dog, Emmy is the sweetest, well behaved pet with a mild mannered disposition. I took her daily for walks or to the local dog park without any issues. Her cat, Trip was enjoyable to care for and laid back. He just required feeding during the day and let out in the a.m. and back inside the house before dark. Both were very easy to care for and a pleasure to have around. The home is safe and nestled in 6 acres. It seems as if you are in the country yet located close to town. The backyard is peaceful and relaxing. It has a fountain with a running stream, lots of trees and a wonderful place to just sit and relax and read a book. I often saw deer in the mornings and evening. I was able to take day trips with an abundance of activities in the area. Lots or restaurants, live music and small towns nearby to explore. If you get the opportunity I would highly recommend sitting for Elaine and her pets. Thanks for the sit!
