About this assignment

We are looking for house sitters:
26 March 2025 to 10th April 2025.
If you are interested, do contact us.

The house is just outside Uzer, a small village (department 65) in the foothills of the High Pyrenees mountains, our house has very comfortable accommodation.

Uzer is about 30/40 minutes from the largest French Pyrenees Ski Station Le Mongie/Bareges, which will be closed but is worth a visit as it has the iconic "Col de Tourmalet", which is included in the Tour de France each year. It's a spectacular part of the High Pyrenees with the Pic du Midi (2877m) accessible by Telecabin all year round.

Uzer to Tarbes or Lourdes is about 30 minutes. Bagneres de Bigorre is our nearest town (7 mins) with all the shops and supermarkets. There is a very good market on Saturday mornings and a Market Hall, which is open some weekdays.

The house is just outside the village of Uzer. The house has two parts: the main house, lounge, TV room, kitchen, bedrooms, utility room, and garage. You have access to the whole house. The TV Room connects to the "Gites" (your part and called "Gites" but it's only used for housesitters, friends, and family). It has one double bedroom, one bedroom with two single beds and a bathroom, so you can even come as a small family! French TV and Chromecast. WiFi etc. Uzer is in a beautiful part of France called Les Baronnies, in the foothills of the Pyrenees yet close enough to some large towns and several airports!

We have a very friendly cat but timid and Golden Retriever who will be 5 years old in November. She has a real sense of humour and is great company. We also have a docile horse with his pony friend and we need you to have had some experience with horses. Putting them in their stable if the weather is bad (not usually at that time of the year). The owner of the pony lives nearby and looks after them as well. Riding not included! There are several neighbours who will be around if needed. Apart from the dog, feeding the cat and checking the horses, we want the house just looked after. There is a kitchen garden if that interests you. Around us, there are plenty of things to do and some magnificent walks, several famous grottos and the Pic du Midi to visit. We hope you take advantage of your stay here.

If coming from England we suggest flights to either Toulouse (TLS) or Pau (PUF). Pau is the nearest to us.

To see where the village is situated on Google maps search for Uzer 65200 France (there are 2 Uzers)

If you are interested please contact us asap and we can chat by Messenger or Facetime (Apple)

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Apart from feeding and walking Zoe our Golden Retriever, there is Titty the cat who does as cats do! We also want the house looked after and a little gardening would be useful. The grass may need cutting at that time of the year.

Several neighbours will be around if needed. There are plenty of things to do and some magnificent walks, several famous grottos and as I said, the La Mongie (our Ski Station) and Pic du Midi to visit. Most ski stations will still be open subject to the snow of course. The area where we live is a small hidden gem of the High-Pyrenees called "Les Baronnies" and has about 21 very small unspoiled villages. (Check it out on Google!) We hope you take advantage of your stay here.

We are a non-smoking house.

You will need a car, yours or a hire car, or if necessary we can let you drive our Renault Captur.

Pau Airport (PUF) is about an hour from us and TOULOUSE Airport (TLS) is about 1.5hrs drive from us . We could pick you up from either of these airports.

What are the good features of the property and location

We are in the country but 8 minutes from Bagneres de Bigorre, which has all the shops, supermarkets etc. This is a large house with excellent accommodation. The house has two parts (connected) and the "Gite", which is only used for family and friends, has two double bedrooms so you can even come as a small family! French TV and Chromecast. WiFi etc. We are in a beautiful part of France called Les Baronnies, in the foothills of the Pyrenees yet close enough to large towns and airports!

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

If you are interested please contact us asap and we can chat by Messenger (best) or Facetime (Apple). We are are available most days so just give us a date and time that will be good for you.

Can I bring my own pets?

Yes
Restrictions: But only dogs. Our cat doesn't accept other cats!

Wonderful

We had the privilege of house sitting for this great couple who live in a beautiful part of France. Henry, Anne Marie and their lovely daughter Manon made us feel very welcome and part of the family. As for Zoe, well she is the most gorgeous puppy who I wished we could bring home with us. We didn't see to much of Titty the cat but she did enjoy her food! The surrounding countryside, particularly the Pic du Midi is spectacular, lots of nice areas to walk and explore. Peter and I highly recommend this house sit.

A dream house sitting opportunity

Everything you could wish for in a home sit - beautiful home, spectacular location, hospitable and friendly hosts, and the sweetest puppy, cuddly cat and happy horses that all made our stay here most enjoyable. Henry and Anne-Marie are simply lovely and have a piece of paradise in an idyllic location for lovers of hiking, skiing, historical sites and good food. Less than 10 minutes drive to many shops, fresh food markets and points of interest. Also the best boulangeries in the region. The horses were easy to care for, as was their cat, but their puppy stole our hearts and was such a joy to see her happy face each morning. We're so thankful we had the opportunity to house sit here and experience the wonders and friendliness of the Midi-Pyrenees. Thanks especially to our new friends, Henry and Anne-Marie, for showing us around and spoiling us with your hospitality.
