Poor Wendy will be missing her best buddy - are you able to give her the attention she needs as a grieving doggy?
Would you like somewhere quiet and cosy to spend a restful retreat? This is a good place to be, with a cosy woodburner, a friendly laid back dog to cuddle on the sofa, lots ofwalks on the doorstep. and a co-op shop at the end of the road.
DATES
15 Feb 2025 for a week, or possibly two
12 April 2025 for two weeks-ish over Easter
24 May 2025 for 10 days over Whitsun half term holday.
Something in the Summer holidays from late July.
I am always happy to meet new dogsitters, especially those who can make repeat visits.
We are in the Cotswolds near Stroud / Bristol / Bath / Gloucester / Cheltenham.
This sit is good for one person, for friends or a small family. (2 bedrooms - in a small house overall). We are open to people coming with their own well adjusted dogs. Wendy loves other dogs and she is gentle, friendly and sociable. She is very patient and good with children; plenty of practice with my young son.
I will advertise other dates here soon so please get in touch if you are interested in future dates in summer 2025. Open to hearing suggestions too as we haven' t made plans yet A range of times to suit those looking to explore locally or simply enjoy a warm and cosy well equipped house, interesting garden and friendly dog pal.
We can't be especially flexible on arrive times to suit, but you are welcome to leave the day after. Happy to pick up you up from or drop you off at Cam and Dursley station. It is best to have your own transport in this fairly rural area but not essential. Sensible drivers can use my crappy little car.
A lovely small old and gentle terrier dog to look after, Wendy. Her buddy Wilma went to Doggy Heaven last year so Wendy needs lots of cuddles and affection now. She is a very cuddly dog so that isn't hard to do.She doesn't much like being left alone for too long. She loves walks, mainly leisurely ones, rolling in the grass and lazing in the sun.
The sit requires that you feed and walk Wendy twice a day, and give lots of fuss. She walks well on the lead but may need some encouraging at first as she can be stubborn with new people. There is a graveyard behind the house which is a safe space to build trust off the lead and hang out. Wendy sleeps a lot in the day. She is very glad of love and strokes.
We have a 2 up 2 down end terraced house with a big garden which is a lovely peaceful place to hang out in. The house is well equipped and heated. We have a lovely wood burning fireplace in the front room, as well as gas central heating, so it is super cosy in the winter. There is a double and single bedroom. Fast wifi and DAB radios. Warm shower, lovely bath. Quiet location. Handy corner shop on our road, with all you need.
Garden with stuff growing to interact with if you choose. It's a wonderful place to hang out in the summer. There is some minor watering to do.
We have a TV and happy to share our netflix etc.
The local area is the Cotswolds Edge, so those who love walking will not be disappointed! It is certainly an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the autumn is truly fantastic with all the hills and woods.
Public transport - buses are not frequent but if you have a bike it is easy to get to Cam and Dursley rail station with direct connections to Bristol, Bath, Cheltenham and Gloucester. My bike is available for small people to borrow but I would rather people brought their own, & / or we can source one here.
Best with own transport to see the sights. Public transport as above and I can collect you from the station if you are car free.
Can you confirm for definite? We need someone reliable without last minute changes.
Yes
Restrictions: No big dogs please - Wendy is an old lady and more comfortable with dogs her own size.
Testimonials
Dursley with Wendy
Mel lives in a wonderful part of the country, right on the edge of the Cotswold escarpment with fantastic countryside full of wooded valleys and ancient hill tops. Dursley is a small town with all the shops and facilities that you might need without being too big to park or get out of it if you want. Wendy is a fairly old Westie who enjoys being out in the countryside but don't expect her to out run you, in the right place she will hurl herself at the grass and roll about like a dog half her age. We had a great few days there with Wendy and would recommend Mel and Wendy to any lover of the countryside. Be aware though Mel is an academic and her house has as many books as the average library! (but not quite Dewey organised)

Thank you Mel for a lovely time!
I have spent the last month looking after Mel's beautiful girl Wendy and I am really sad to be leaving this morning. This month has been such a lovely introduction to housesitting for me. Great communications from Mel prior to the sit. A list of important info on arrival and most importantly I met Wendy. Wendy is the sweetest, gentlest Westie I could have hoped to meet. She has been a wonderful companion to me during my time in this lovely little town. I will miss our drives, walks and excursions and especially her reaction to being on lovely green grass. I will be leaving a little piece of my heart with Wendy when I go. I really have to thank Mel for my stay as I have enjoyed it far more than I expected. I hope to return sometime as it has been so good. Thank you Mel and Wendy for giving me this opportunity which I will never forget.
