About this assignment

I would like someone to live in my house with my two cats, Sapho and Nellie and my Tortoise Alex . I live in a small three bedroomed semi-detached house in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, England, which is accessible by regular buses from Huddersfield and services from most areas nearby. Ideally it would be someone who likes to visit this area since if it works out, I would like to repeat the experience. I live about a 5 minute walk out of the centre of Holmfirth but the hill is rather steep so you must fit enough to walk up a hill.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

My cats need feeding morning and evening and general care. My two girls are lovely and will make you very welcome! If there is a problem in relation to their health you would need to take them to the Vet - I would pay for a taxi and have pet insurance for them. Alex the Tortoise needs feeding once a day in summer but hibernates from November to March so needs no care during that time.

What are the good features of the property and location

Holmfirth is a beautiful, small town on the borders of the peak district, near Holme Moss. There are lots of opportunities for walking and cycling and there are interesting places to visit nearby. The bus station is a five minute walk away and there are regular buses to Wakefield, Huddersfield and many of the small villages and towns nearby. There is a station with trains to Sheffield and Huddersfield about three miles away. Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield and Bradford are about 20 miles away in different directions and accessible by public transport. If you turn right out of my house you are in the countryside within about five minutes. Holmfirth has a swimming pool, gym, as well as shops and various leisure venues.
Neighbours are all really nice and friendly. It is a pretty town and I have lovely views front and back.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

As stated earlier,I live on quite a steep hill. There is no private parking but you can park on the street - usually outside my house. I live opposite a small infant and junior school and so the road is busy at 8.50 am and 3.15 pm every day during school days - (as in you can't easily drive up during those times), except for school holidays. My house is quite small and utilitarian but comfortable. You can hear the neighbours next door (who are very nice but have three children).
I would prefer someone who comes with at least one testimonial but otherwise a reference that I can check will do.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Cosy Autumn with Sapho and Nellie

I loved my stay in Holmfirth, cuddling a lot with the cats Sapho and Nellie. Rosemary was verry kind and helpfull and quick with answering questions, even after she had left and went to a different timezone! The neighbours Nextdoor down the road where also very kind and helpful with giving tips for walks, also inviting me to walk together. The village has some lovely charity shops worth visiting and kind inhabitants:) Busses brought me to the edge of the beautiful Peak District, where I had some magical vieuws! I definitely recommend this stay and will be happy to come again! :)

Housesitting for Rosemary in March, 2024

I was fortunate enough to be asked to house sit for Rosemary, for ten days this month in her lovely home in Holmfirth, in beautiful West Yorkshire. I have house sit for Rosemary, a number of times over recent years, and always look forward to being in that beautiful part of this country. Her two Cats “ Nellie “ and “ Sappho “ are no problem at all and are great company. It was much to cold on this occasion to look after “ Alex “ the Tortoise, ???? as he was still in hibernation. I totally recommend this sit if you get the chance. It’s in such a beautiful location.

Holmfirth House/Cat Sit

House sitting for Rosemary in the picturesque village of Holmfirth was a real pleasure. Her lovely cats have sweet temperaments and seemed to enjoy my company. There are many walks taking you over the hills and dales and opportunities to join in outings with local groups and guides. Holmfirth has very good local amenities and excellent bus services to other locations. The unexpected bonus of snowfall made this a magical house sit.

Excellent House Sit in lovely Holmfirth

I was privileged enough to be invited back to Rosemarys lovely home in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, the second time I have been invited to sit for Rosemary. I just love the home, and the views surrounding Rosemary’s home, just love the Yorkshire Buildings, and surrounding landscape. It’s not far to travel by bus to nearby towns, and villages. I just love the two cats, who remembered me from my last sit back in July. They made me feel very welcome and were never far away from me. They were great company. I must give the highest marks five stars. If you get the opportunity to sit for Rosemary, you certainly won’t be disappointed. Thanks again for everything Rosemary. Bob.

House sit in Holmfirth in July, 2020

I had the pleasure to house sit for nine days for Rosemary, in her lovely home in the village of Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, looking after her two friendly cats, and Alex, the 40 plus year old tortoise. Rosemary’s home is situated in a short walking distance to the small village of Holmfirth, which has everything anyone would want. There is a Bus Station in the Village which has buses travelling, to various parts of Yorkshire. Rosemary, picked me up and dropped me back to the railway station, and made me feel very welcome. I am due to return in November, for a few weeks and do it all over again, and am looking forward to it very much. Many thanks Rosemary, for allowing me to sit for you. I can fully recommend this sit, in one of the most beautiful parts of the U.K.

Cat-sitting in Holmfirth

I've now stayed at Rosemary's home twice, in January and March, caring for her two sweet girls Nellie and Sappho. Rosemary is very helpful and kind and her home is equally lovely. She provided detailed instructions for me about caring for the house and cats and has gone out of her way each time to ensure I have everything needed for a comfortable stay. Holmfirth is a pleasant small town and the house is conveniently located within walking distance to shops, cafes, the bus station, post office, etc. It's also easy to get to places such as Huddersfield, Leeds, Sheffield, and York from the bus station if you'd like to do some exploring. Holmfirth itself has some picturesque walks as well which you can easily access straight from the house. I would highly recommend this housesit to anyone who enjoys peace and quiet and, of course, cats. :) Thank you again, Rosemary!
