About this assignment

We seek someone to care for and enjoy our house and small dog, Zoey. She is a 5 year old beagle mix about 18 lbs.). She likes to do be walked and to stroll around the back yard (under supervision) She will sometimes play chase-the-squeeky toy. She loves car rides and has a great disposition. She can have separation anxiety issues so I don't leave her alone for more than a couple of hours. We also feed the birds, have several feeders. We keep a good supply of birdseed on hand. We have seen 3 Pileated Woodpeckers in the backyard.

We want an experienced and dependable house sitter. They can not bring any pets of their own. The house is a very comfortable cottage style house with a living room with a queen hide-a-bed, a library and an efficient galley style kitchen. The main sleeping room has a single bed,

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

We need someone to stay here in Florida while we are
traveling . They should care for Zoey, and take care of the house. We have a handy man that lives in the neighborhood to call if anything goes wrong. We need someone experienced with dogs. Our dog is fed twice a day and is generally easy to care for.

What are the good features of the property and location

The location has the best of both worlds. The subdivision of 1 to 3 acre treed lots gives you the feeling of being in the woods, but it is just a short drive to the parks, shops & museums around the University of Florida campus. The house is a very comfortable cottage style house. Our house will offer you one bedroom, a bathroom, a living room with a smart TV and a queen size hide a bed. There is a laundry room. The dining room has a library, and the kitchen that has a great view out the back window of the 1 acre lot.

This neighborhood is wonderful to walk and enjoy nature. We have lots of birds. We are also only a 15 minute drive to Payne's Prairie State Park. On a recent visit to the Park we saw a herd of wild ponies grazing. Also, the same amount of drive time will get you to Starbucks, Walmart, Whole Foods and a variety of shopping plazas. There are many accessible hot springs about a half hour from the house, and "Visit Gainesville" site has lots of info.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

They need to be experienced with dog care. Zoey is very healthy and happy. She loves to ride in the car so I often take her along. She loves an occasional pup cup at Starbucks. We do short morning and evening walks around the neighbor hood. If she is left in the crate, I am usually back within an hour or two.

We will expect our sitter to be a good neighbor to our neighbors. It is a quiet neighborhood with a lot of older people. Public transportation is very limited. Uber and Lyft operate here, but it really would be best if you have your own car.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Loved My Time in Florida!

Lynn is an amazing home owner. I arrived a little early and Lynn immediately made me feel welcome and comfortable. Their home was warm, clean, and inviting. Lynn made sure I had contact information for her, the neighbors, the handyman, and vet info in case of an emergency. There was plenty of dog food and there were lots of treats for Zoey. Zoey, Lynn's beagle mix, was a sweetheart! Such a cutie! She was very easy to get to know. We enjoyed our walks, our play time, and time outside. She's a real love bug! There was a little light care of plants (watering) and filling bird feeders but nothing major. I'd house/pet sit again for Lynn anytime. I miss Zoey already!

We had a lovely time taking care of Georgie, he has the sweetest nature, just a really loving and easy to care for dog, who stole our hearts! He is happy to snuggle with you on the sofa, chase his toy, or just be close by. He has an very easy routine, with his own dog run entered by a doggie door, so no walks are required. We usually took Georgie along if we were out for more than an hour, he loves car rides and is aways very good, stopping for a sniff and an occasional puppychino is his favourite thing! Lynn and Anne were great hosts, they made us feel welcome when we arrived, leaving us some delectable goodies, and thoughtful gifts we will treasure. They ensured we had everything we could possibly need before they left, leaving cute notes around the house for us, and a house manual with all the pertinent info written down. While away Lynn was always available to answer any question we had via Whatsapp, and she stayed in touch throughout her travels which we enjoyed. Their location is in a quiet suburb surrounded by canals, we enjoyed our eveing strolls exploring the area. Anything you could need is within walking distance, a mall, restaurants, groceries etc. The city of Punta Gorda is just across the bridge, a 15 minute drive with a nice waterfront and walkable downtown centre. We really enjoyed spending time in the back yard, or in the sunroom overlooking the yard, as it is a lovely oasis filled with birds, flowers, squirrels and many other amazing creatures, completly private, shaded by trees surrounding a lovely salt water pool. We even had Screech Owls nest beside the pool, and got to watch the chicks grow up. We highly recommend this sit, and hope we are lucky enough to do this one again, after seven weeks the most difficult thing for us was leaving, we will miss Georgie and all the amazing wildlife!
