About this assignment
Looking for clean, responsible animal loving person or couple to stay in my home to feed only my dog, cats and bearded dragon morning and evening and provide company to my rescue dog. My dog can be left alone for 4-6 hours, so you're not tied to the house when you stay.
*** After having several house sitters, I realize it is better for to have a local sitter, who knows the pigs and their routine, care for the pigs. (Pigs are intelligent and try to take advantage of new people, so having a regular local sitter is easier for everyone!) ***
What responsibilities are required of the house sitter
One inside dog (Beast), two outdoor cats (Tabby and Sammy), and one bearded dragon (Beardie).
I am looking for someone/couple to stay in my home to provide company for Beast while I'm away, throw the ball in the yard for Beast to give him exercise, and to feed Beast, Tabby, Sammy, and Beardie morning and evening. Beast doesn't need to be walked; throwing the ball is his form of exercise (chuck-it for throwing the ball is provided!)
I have 16 rescued potbellied pigs (Duncan, Chip, Beezus, Dale, Oscar, George, Wilbur, Jack, Charlotte, Beki, Bella, Boots, Boovie, Darla, Pinky, and Gandalf), but due to the number of pigs, I have a local sitter take care of feeding the pigs morning and evening, although if you are interested in learning about pigs and their care and want to help you're more than welcome!
What are the good features of the property and location
2.5 acre farm with heated pool and fire pit in Jupiter Farms. Home is 2 bed, 1 bath and approximately 2100 square feet. Close to natural park areas where you can ride bikes and kayak, unspoiled beaches and places of interest (Bush wildlife sanctuary, loggerhead marine life center, Roger Dean baseball stadium, restaurants, mall, and more).
What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment
Must have car as Jupiter Farms does not have public transportation. (There may be the possibility of using my vehicle). My home is located 4 miles from I95 and The Florida Turnpike.
Two professional male tenants live on property. The only shared space is the hallway to the laundry room, which is behind a door that you can lock from the inside of the home where you would be staying.
Can I bring my own pets?

It's the toughest job you'll ever love
The above phrase was used to advertise the Peace Corps, but it could be used to describe this farm. I love animals, and I took on this assignment in order to care for and manage the animals living on this farm. I have cared for many kinds of animals before, including pigs, but also cows, goats, donkeys and horses, but the pigs on this farm are something else. Most of them are potbellies or potbelly mixes, but there are also 2 Meishans and a boar. All are very sweet in their own way, and I loved to hear their stories. Each of the pigs has their own personality, and obviously they have names. It was so much fun to get to know all of them! The pigs are smarter than the smartest dog, and you had better take care that they don't outsmart you! The pigs' feeding times are your workout time. I actually lost 5 pounds taking care of them twice a day during my first 3 weeks there, and I worked up quite a sweat every time. Luckily, there is a great, refreshing swimming pool in which to relax and reflect on the soap opera that is the interaction of these porcine family members. There is also Beast the dog, a really sweet pit mix who loves to play ball. There is a big dog run right on the property where we spent fun times chucking and chasing several balls at a time. Beardy the bearded dragon is relatively easy to care for, and the 2 cats on the pool deck are very sweet and loving. It's extremely important that Beast the dog never gets to them, so I spent some time with them after my swims, before going back inside to join Beast indoors. Living accommodations were very comfortable, I had a nice guest room with a full bath room right next to it. The house has several AC zones and is located in a quiet, rural area. Many neighbours here have livestock, for example there are horses in stables right across the street. The location is very safe and quiet, the 2 tenants living in their apartments on the property are polite and courteous, there were never any issues. I spent two separate tours of duty on Lisa's farm, and they are experiences I will never forget! Still thinking fondly of the whole menagerie!

Relive farm life in southern Florida.
As someone who was raised on a farm, it was nostalgic to once again wake up early in the morning to feed and care for animals. Getting to know each rescue pig was at first a challenge during feeding time. But after a few tries, the chores settled into a routine that offered a sense of fulfillment and purpose. Getting to know the rescue dog, Beast, was definitely a highlight. His strong temperament toward other dogs gave way to a sweet side that was won over by giving lots of praise and encouragement for fetching the ball and getting attention. Lisa was very organized in filling in details necessary for the daily caring of each animal, and was readily available when questions arose despite being overseas during most of our stay. Upon their return, we felt right at home spending time with Lisa and Jed, and enjoyed getting to know each other’s interests on many topics. The location was just a few miles from town, so restaurants and stores were only minutes away. As newcomers to Mind My House, this was our first experience and found it to be overall enjoyable and hope to do more assignments.
