About this assignment

Looking for clean, responsible, couple who love cats and will not mind cleaning the litter box! We have two indoor cats, Lucy and Rico. Also, you can't mind cat hair...we have lint rollers for your clothes! They are accustomed to being locked in the laundry room at night which has helped Rico with his nervous stomach.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Clean litter box daily, brush the cats on a regular basis, trim nails (we will demonstrate), and vacuum the rugs, general housekeeping, put out the garbage cans weekly, some light watering of the landscape only during an occassional heat wave.

What are the good features of the property and location

We are centrally located close to Monterey, CA, Pinnacles National Park, and San Francisco. The weather tends to be mild during the summer months, but there will be a few hot days. Central air is available. We are located within walking distance of downtown. This summer the San Benito County Rodeo and Horseshow takes place in June and the Hollister Motorcycle Rally takes place during the July 4th holiday--both entertaining.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

This is a downtown location--small town living with on street parking only. Our home is historic, but has been upgraded with modern amenities. Additional parking could be available in our detached garage, depending on the size of your vehicle.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Testimonials

Great housesit, homeowners, and cats!

We had a great experience on this four-month housesit. Sharlene and Frank were friendly, welcoming, and organized. We appreciated the connections ahead of the sit to take care of some of the orientation and questions, and their thorough walk-through and binder once we arrived. They were also generous and kind about making space for our belongings for such a long sit in their closets, kitchen and garage, and introducing us to several neighbors on the first evening. Their home is clean, light filled and comfortable, and I was able to work well remotely. The small, friendly town has a lot of the basics within an easy walk or bike and bigger towns with more options within reach. Lucy and Rico are great fur companions, both of them becoming purry lap cats each morning and evening, Rico with a few more rules and preferences that required a bit more winning over than Lucy but both becoming fast friends quickly. The house took a bit more than the average to keep up, with Rico's nervous stomach and lots of white tile, but supplies were handy and plentiful, and the outdoor care was easier than usual (no lawn) and Sharlene and Frank were great about encouraging our impromptu garden additions. We recommend this sit!

A sit worth repeating

We had the privilege of being Frank and Sharlene's first sitters through Mind My House, and can highly recommend sitting for them. They are among the most organized and well prepared people we've ever sat for, and gave us a clear orientation in addition to providing both a digital and printed sitter guide and resources binder. They maintained excellent communication before, during, and after the sit, promptly answering all our questions and thoughtfully advising us of upcoming local events during our stay. Their charming historic home is immaculate, comfortably furnished with everything we needed, and within easy walking distance of downtown, with its historic buildings, numerous shops and restaurants. Frank and Sharlene introduced us to some of their friends and neighbors over dinner our first night - people who graciously welcomed us into their community and enhanced our 2.5 month stay with periodic get togethers. Their indoor cats, Rico and Lucy, were wonderful companions and very easy to care for; in fact, they are among the few cats we've met who love their daily brushing! Rico took a little while to warm up to us, but then became as much of a lovebug as Lucy. With great hosts, a spotless and well organized home in a quiet, walkable neighborhood, a friendly town with welcoming neighbors, interesting day trips nearby like the quaint mission town of San Juan Bautista or Pinnacles National Park, and two lovable feline companions, we couldn't have asked for a better sit over the winter holidays!
