Female dog, nearly 6 year old Malinois cross. She may initially be a little wary with new people, but soon settles down. She can be unpredictable with other dogs, so needs to be kept on the lead.
I'm looking for a sitter who is experienced with dogs to primarily look after my nearly 6 year old furry companion, to keep her safe and happy!
The main responsibility is to take care of Marlie, walking, feeding and company! The house is easily maintained, nothing special required, just to put out recycling on Monday morning.
The house is in small market town (a convenience store, 2 pubs, 2 tea/coffee shops), within 5 minutes of Cheddar Gorge, 10 miles to Wells, and 1/2hr to coast (Burham-0n-sea, Weston-super-mare, Clevedon). It's a 5 minute walk to Cheddar reservoir, and the Strawberry Line walk/cycle path no 26 (goes from Yatton to Cheddar) is easily accessible, plus lots of public footpaths in easy walking distance. The house is a small semi-detached, newly renovated, with 2 double bedrooms in a quiet cul-de-sac, 2 minutes walk to the medieval village square.
Marlie can initially be a bit anxious of new people, but she soon relaxes. She loves her walks and there are plenty of walks to do in the area, without needing to drive anywhere. She is best kept on the lead around other dogs, but loves to have a run around when possible.
No, sorry.

Thank you Alison and Marlei! :)
From the moment I arrived, Alison welcomed me at the train station with a warm hug. At a time when I needed a peaceful space to reflect and organize my year, she offered me not just a house but a home—a warm, cozy place filled with kindness, generosity, and a comforting sense of belonging in a very special moment in my life. Alison is truly a remarkable person: elegant, adventurous, and full of life. Her stories of travel and adventure are inspiring, and her great sense of humor makes every conversation a delight! I also loved hearing about her adorable grandchildrens, each with such unique sneaky personalities!. She and her daughter went above and beyond to ensure my stay was comfortable. About the cutie Marlei? She is an absolute star! At first glance, with her sleek, strong build, she may look like a serious police dog, but in reality, she is a sweetheart with the most loving and playful personality. As a trained medical assistance dog, she is incredibly intelligent and attentive, always making sure you’re okay. But what truly surprised me was her playful side—she has a huge heart, a sense of humor, and a deep emotional connection with people. One of the most charming discoveries? Marlei understands my Spanish better than English! when I am saying things like "ven aquí, vamos, volvemos a casa" she transformed into the most excited puppy, running toward me with joy and obedience! With Marlei, we formed an immediate bond, and she even brought me little “gifts” often: a toy, a stick, my shoes haha as if trying to cheer me up. And when I think I feel cold, before I stand up to pick a jacket, she would instinctively move closer to keep me warm and bring a blanket. How is this possible? It’s incredible how Marlei just know exactly what we need, like the dogs in the movies haha. Alison’s home is straight out of a dream: a stunning French-style house, elegant and welcoming, with everything perfectly arranged for a comfortable stay. The attention to detail and warmth in her home made it feel like a peaceful retreat and the story behind about how she rebuild her home is amazing. One of the best surprises? Arriving with all the essentials in place and a very comfortable guest room, such a luxury for any housesitter! And then, there’s the village... simply magical. A picture-perfect medieval town with beautifully maintained homes in harmonious colors, classic English gardens, and an atmosphere straight out of a storybook. The lifestyle here is exactly what you see in old films, like people strolling through the streets, enjoying drinks at the local pub, and shopping at charming markets. If you love cheese, you’re in for a treat! The region is home to a Cheddar cheese reserve, with a specialty cheese village offering an incredible selection of local products. Many people get inspired by this location because nearby is the famous Glastonbury Festival, a sanctuary for music fans worldwide. The beauty of the English countryside is truly something special—the fresh air, the breathtaking landscapes, and the sense of community make it an idyllic escape from city life. Everyone knows each other, and Marlei is a local celebrity! Neighbors stop to greet her and always ask how you’re doing, making you feel instantly welcome. The warmth of the people and the serenity of nature made this experience even more magical. Interestingly, Somerset has also been a retreat for many celebrities. Johnny Depp reportedly owns a stunning estate in the area, while Nicholas Cage has often been seen around Glastonbury. Even Ritchie Blackmore, the legendary Deep Purple guitarist, hails from this part of England. The region is not just a countryside escape... it’s a place that has inspired artists, musicians, and dreamers for generations. To anyone considering this experience, don’t hesitate! is an absolutely non-touristic hidden gem. You’ll find a fantastic host, an amazing dog, a breathtaking village, and a once-in-a-lifetime countryside retreat :)

An enjoyable time
I spent a lovely 4 days at Alison's home hanging out with Marlie. Alison is very friendly and welcoming. Marlie is a sweet, gentle dog, very well-behaved, and spending time with her was a pleasure. Alison's home is in a beautiful region of France and I enjoyed the villages, chateaus, and local markets. I highly recommend this house sit.
