About this assignment

We have a big family of animals including 16 dogs, 6 cats and a parrot.
We would like to take multiple trips and allow the sitters to travel/go sightseeing and come back for multiple sits. We like to have sitters to come for two months or more. You should have experience in giving pills and preparing different meals for dogs.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Give all the dogs lots of love !
- Feed the dogs twice a day (dry food and some toppings that will already be prepared)
- Keep a listen for barking in the back fenced yard. Sometimes an iguana, snake, monkey, kinkajou, baby owl, and more have entered the yard and the dogs need to be called back or sprayed with a hose to allow the critter to escape.

The dogs are the priority in terms of responsibilities but we would also ask for the cat bowls to be filled once a day, fish pond to be fed twice a day, parrots fed once a day, chickens/ducks fed and chickens locked up at night and gather fresh eggs, released in the morning and (depending on the season) plants be watered.
Enjoy your adventure !!

What are the good features of the property and location

We have a 50 hectares (120acres) farm in a cove of mountains that we share with rescued animals, chickens, ducks and wildlife. The lodging consists of a private separate container/cabina with kitchen, TV, and bathroom. We ask the sitters to not leave while we are gone. Once we return the sitters are welcome to base out of here and travel the country or stay on and enjoy a free cabin while taking tours.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

It is hot and humid. The place is especially interesting for people who love nature, quietness and a simple life. During the summer months (January-April) it is dry and the trees drop their leaves and bloom showing wonderful colors across the mountains. In the rainy season (May to October) everything is lush and green. Expect cloudy weather, some dramatic storms, and brief blackouts.
The neighbors are mainly Spanish speaking, there is public transport available (to the city of Nicoya about 15km). You can walk or bike to a little grocery about 3km away. Also people using this road are usually local people who will give you a lift since a lot of people around here do not have a car and its common to hitchhike. Yet, mobility is a bit limited. The living area is very simple and comfortable.
We have two mountain bikes for your use and on our property there are multiple hiking trails to walk with birds and animals to watch.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.
