Romeo, my dog is 70 lbs. He is a terrific leash walker but can be very strong if his interest in peaked in something like a rabbit or another passing dog.
Non-smoking adult. Someone who wants to be in a mountain environment and is physically fit and desires walking and hiking with my dog Romeo. Those with an appreciation for my home, gentle dog and outdoor surroundings area a good match.
Care for and walk my dog 2 times a day, 20-30 minutes minimum. Do longer hikes with my dog at least 1 time weekly. Water house plants once every 2 weeks. During the winter months keeping the pellet stove running, which involves lifting 40lb bags daily and weekly ash cleaning. There may be a small amount of snow shoveling if it snows. As the spring approaches there may be a small amount of mowing in May. This can be hired out if you are not comfortable with this task. General over sight of the property.
Beautiful home and mountain setting. Immediate access to national forest and trails. 20 minutes to Albuquerque and 1 hour to Santa Fe. Very peaceful setting and very friendly neighborhood. Clean and uncluttered home. Outdoor hot tub. Raised garden bed is available for planting if interested.
While my home is close to a large city it is still rural living. There is wildlife, consideration to be given to careful water use, septic system care, pellet stove operation and wild fire risk. These are all things that I can provide specific guidance on.
I do have some flexibility in dates on either end. So if you are interested but would need to arrive up to 2-3 weeks later or leave 2-3 weeks earlier this may work out
Yes
Restrictions: I am willing to consider another dog. I don't think a cat would be safe with my dog.

Wonderful housesit, great dog, nice neighbors…
I completed an extremely pleasant eight-week house and dog sit for Judy in Cedar Crest this past summer. The house is more than comfortable, spacious and easy to keep tidy. Romeo is a great, gentle dog – a perfect match if you like to walk and hike. He was very easy to care for, with simple and quick meal routines. The best part was his infectious enthusiasm and energy: plenty to get me up and moving each morning. After a very quick breakfast (his) we’d usually take in one of the beautiful National Forest trails that are accessible just steps away from the front door. He’s also happy to walk in the forested neighborhood, with lots of quiet streets to explore. Judy was very friendly and a real pleasure to get to know. She thoroughly explained the needs and routines of both Romeo and her home. She also introduced me to several neighbors and provided contacts for others. All were extremely friendly. I spoke directly with several while out and about, once ending up with a large container of dessert. (That wasn’t really on my diet, but it doesn’t count when you’re housesitting. Right?) Judy was also quickly available via text, email or phone to answer any questions that came up. In fact, we routinely traded photos during the sit: her travel adventures and my hikes with Romeo, as well as lots of pictures of the beautiful nature scenes I found in the forest, neighborhood and even her garden. The location, to me, was perfect. Her quiet neighborhood at the foot of a mountain and National Forest sits within a mile or two of a well stocked grocery, a hardware store, post office and a really nice variety of restaurants and shops.
