About this assignment

Someone looking to travel and enjoy the local surroundings.
This sit was a rescue center, now just having 8 dogs , 10 cats to care for.
The property is quite large and does not require walking the dogs.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Feeding and caring for the dogs. I do leave detailed instructions. Some of the dogs are crated, others have designated sleeping areas.
The cats are all very independent, mostly returning to feed.
A local,Vet that’s is very willing to come to make house calls if needed.
Some gardening, mostly just keeping the plants watered.
Some house keeping, the dogs shed so needs sweeping and moping out a bit.

What are the good features of the property and location

private, secure, 6 blocks from plaza, a completely restored adobe house (150years,)
2 bdr. 1.5 bathrooms. small well developed garden..low maintenance great view from the terrace of the near by mountains.
Compostela is a charming (Pueblo Magico) dating back to 1532. The community is very welcoming, and friendly. Google,it.
a nearby freshwater pool. A jogging, or walking trail around the lake. With small restaurant. Lovely.
All within walking distance of the house..

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

This sit is about coming into their home, adhering to their schedule. Especial at feeding time, and crating time for the night. Only some are crated but all have their sleeping pallet. This is their sanctuary. The cats are pretty self sufficient just need to be fed. The are in/outdoor cats. No litter box.
This is basically being on the property with the dogs....they get into mischief if left alone to much.. So Ideal for a writer, artist, or someone who self entertains.
My travel dates have not firmed up yet. I will need a sitter for May 2025 for at least 4 weeks.
Compostela is a very small community in the mountains outside of Tepic(capitol of Nayarit),
a couple would be fine

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Having fun in the sun with a bunch of puppies!

I learned alot on my trip to Compestela, working as the substitute teacher for Sandra's pack, 9 dogs, twice as many cats, and a tropical backyard to boot. Compestela is a great little community with lots of opportunities to explore...the community pool, plaza, lake, rodeo and shopping. I'd love to share more but I could go on for awhile. Sandra does a great job passing on the reigns to the substitute teachers. I enjoyed getting to know her and her community. Great hospitality!! So as the sub, I could share lots of funny quibs to strengthen the kid/dog analogy. But again to keep it concise, they are a real cute bunch, with some sweet relationships and worked well together. Life is never easy and then add 9 dogs but I feel blessed for the experience regardless. I chose the pain for alot of gain in the long run.

Beautiful Mexican countryside close to the lovely town of,Compostela

Sandra, was a wonderful host, an awesome chef,And spent numerous days with me to make sure I was familiar with the routine, and that I was comfortable with the pets and that they were happy and at home with me!! It was a lovely and comfortable home and yard with the beautiful small town of, Compostela For shopping and restaurants just a 10 to 15 minute walk away. Sandra was always available to answer my , questions And to receive updates… She is very clear and direct, and communicates clearly and was very helpful!! Thanks for some wonderful memories and I miss each and everyone of the dogs. The cats were cool in their own right as the pack included, a Beautiful Manx and a number of other feline characters and I definitely became attached to all the animals and I miss them. The sit, definitely kept me on my toes and kept me hopping. Thanks Sandra George

Great Experience

We truly enjoyed sitting for Sandra’s dogs and cats. We fell in love with all of them. They are friendly and follow the daily routine well. They sleep a lot and we had lots of fun playing with them, brushing them and giving lots of pets and scratches behind the ears. They range from small to large and get along well. They all loved chilling to Abba! The house and yard are set up to accommodate them and is very spacious and functional. We loved the private setting and the view of the town, especially at sunset/night time. The location was ideal as we could easily walk into town for the best fresh fruit and vegetables. Sandra was great to introduce us to her local mercado merchants, show us the town and introduce us to her veterinary and his delightful family. The town is quaint with a lovely central town square and beautiful old church. The residents are very friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our first sit! We miss the dogs and cats. It was an experience we’ll always cherish!

Great Communication + A New Home

Our experience sitting for Sandra was truly second-to-none. From our preparations before arriving, to during the sit, our communication was great. Sandra made sure to put a lot of things in place (utilities, supplies, etc.) before she left, so that we never had a problem, and were able to focus on what truly mattered: our new canine and feline friends! The town was charming, and we were never short of a friendly face willing to help (even with a language barrier). My partner and I would definitely love to sit for Sandra again.

Wonderful animals, huose and garden

I've sat for a Sandra several times from 2 weeks to 6 weeks at a time. I adored the dogs and cats, and loved the easy care garden, watering most days. It's close to the centre if town which has everything one needs along with a great little weekly vege market. Large Walmart about 3040 mins away by local taxi bus, although as The owner advises, the dogs do need supervision and can't be left alone for very long. Overall I loved sitting for Sandra and her gorgeous animals.

Sandra Katzman - Church Of The Dog Rescue Hacienda

Hello. Our names are James and Ely. We have house sat for Sandra twice now which I think says a lot. First time was for 6 weeks and second was for 2 weeks. At the rescue there is approximately 16 dogs and 12 cats. The cats are very easy to take care of as they come and go as they please. The dogs have two feeding times at 7am and 5pm. There is no walking involved with the dogs as they are let out the front gate for a run around before the first feeding (don't worry they all come back lol). Santa Maria is a nice little Mexican town with a crater lake nearby. We felt safe here always.
