One small dogs and two cats
Someone who will look after my property as if it were their own. Enjoy everything that it has to offer. Make themselves feel comfortable and completely at home. If you like peace and quiet then this is the place. I am surrounded by farming land with some forests not far away. Great for walking and cycling. In the town of Vrbovec, 15 kilometres away, you will find a bigger choice of shops and a train and bus station with links to Zagreb city, 50 kilometres away, plus smaller towns in the surrounding area.
I don’t have a car. I do have a scooter and bicycle for getting around locally.
People are friendly and can be curious. Dubrava is not a tourist destination.
I have one small dog. I couldn’t tell you her breed, there is too much of a mixture in her makeup. She found me! She is
from the local area and decided to make my home her forever home. Sonia has been with me for ten years. She is very easy to look after. Small walks up the road and across the fields is what makes her happy.
The two cats, one girl, one boy, both neutered. Slinky, the boy is seven years old. He is mischievous and cheeky. He is not allowed in the house as he tends to spray. Rodney, yes she’s a girl. She is eight years old. She’s a very gentle soul who spends most of her time trying to avoid Slinky as he’s not very nice to her, she’s allowed in the house, it’s her safe place.
I have a large ish garden with some vegetable patches. Flower beds, lots of fruit bushes and a few apple, pear and walnut trees which provide great shade for the hammocks in summer.
I live on a very quiet little road about 1 kilometre from the small town of Dubrava. Only six of the houses are lived in full time. The road is mainly used by farming vehicles to access the fields which surround this area. The town has four small general stores, Bank, Post office, Pharmacy, Medical centre, two restaurants, numerous cafe bars, Bakery and in the summer months there is a fabulous ice cream shop.
My house is typical of this area. There are some out buildings that would originally have been used for keeping animals. There’s a very large barn and wood store. We made some renovations to the house ten years ago but tried to keep some of the original look and style. Two bedrooms and shower/toilet on the first floor. Large living room, bathroom and kitchen on the ground floor. In the kitchen area there is a wood burning stove which heats the radiators throughout the house. In warmer weather water for showering is heated by electric water tank.
There is wi-fi, TV, lots of DVDs
In the front room there is another wood burning fire. Nice for snuggling up on a chilly evening watching a movie. That’s if there’s room on the couch for you with the animals.
I don’t have a car. Bicycle and scooter if you have a license.
No, sorry.
Testimonials
Staying with Fergus, Sonia, Rodney and Slinky in rural Croatia
I was fortunate to be asked to look after Mary’s delightful gang of cats and dogs. This was a very peaceful rural house sit, surrounded by fields, but not isolated. The house was very comfortable and I appreciated the wood fired stove on cool evenings, the pleasant tasting well water and the garden which was just coming into life. Mary is very organised and arranging the sit was straightforward. She gave clear explanations of the house and the routines for the pets, she especially understands the nature and needs of rescue animals. Mary had a friend drive me to and from the train station and be available for any emergencies. She also lent me her excellent bike which I used to ride into the local town and explore the country lanes. I didn’t need a car. I stayed for a couple of nights before and after the sit and Mary was a kind and generous host. I enjoyed the delicious meals she made and also hearing stories from her interesting life. Most important was the company of the animals. Fergus and Sonia are sweet little dogs and l walked with them without leads in the fields on most days. Rodney, a gentle female tabby cat, slept quietly on my bed at night and Slinky, an energetic male cat, lived outside. The neighbouring cats and dogs would also frequently call by for a visit. If you would appreciate a peaceful rural stay with entertaining, free range dogs and cats I recommend the opportunity.
