Artist's Retreat in the German Countryside

About this assignment

Someone who is fine sleeping with a canine heating pad. Our small dog is a bit needy. Beyond that, some with good communication skills, helpful, handy, responsible. Ideally someone who is pretty self-sufficient, clean and friendly. They should be a rugged/robust type who enjoys the simple, organic things in life. There is a greenhouse, so cool weather gardening would be possible, but not a must. Unless you are very resilient you will need a car.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Keep the house heated and be present. Not leave the dog alone for more than a couple of hours. The heating the house part is not completely easy. We have a wood-burning furnace which is straightforward, but can be tricky. You will need to stoke it every day, twice if temperatures dip much below freezing. The furnace supplies normal radiators with enough to keep the rooms toasty.

What are the good features of the property and location

The house is in a safe, quaint village surrounded by a large organic garden. There are forest running/walking trails at the doorstep. There are 2 cosy, completely separate living/working spaces - a guest apartment with bathroom and kitchen (apx 48m2), and a pottery studio (apx. 60m2) with a bathroom and 2 sinks. Both have vaulted cielings and tons of natural light. An excellent situation for writers, artists and musicians.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

You will need a car if the weather is bad. The next grocery store is 10 km away. There is a bus, but it does not run often. It is very peaceful, but not ideal if you are need a lot of social interaction.
