About this assignment

Someone or a couple to take care of our four legged babies, grab the mail, and water a few plants. We’d like someone who loves animals as much as we do and treats our pets like their own.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

The dogs eat twice a day, at 6am and at 5pm. They like to have two walks a day around the property where there is an established path. If you walk them off property they will need to be leashed since we have a lot of wildlife in the area and they will take off after the random deer or porcupine. The girls love to sleep in bed with you and are free to nap on the new couches (no matter how hard we’ve tried to keep them off!). We’ve used friends and family in the past to sit and these three love bugs are used to new people coming into the home. Occasionally Rosie will bark at outside noises since she is more skittish than the other two. Depending upon the time of year they love to be outside most of the day. In the colder months, it’s couch time. The girls get along pretty well unless someone takes Blueberry’s emotional support ball and then there might be a bit of a warning growl, but not to worry, they are good dogs with very loving dispositions. They will get excited with new people and Mable likes to jump up to try and give kisses. Eventually they calm and then forget you are there.

What are the good features of the property and location

We live in a secluded rural area of the northern lower peninsula of Michigan in a log cabin on 40 acres of land with a 3 acre pond. “Slow Dog Cabin” appears rustic from the outside and looks like it came out of a hobbit movie, but has been completely updated over the past few years. Slow Dog Cabin is a 2 bedroom, one bath cabin with an open concept kitchen, dining and living room space with a floor to ceiling stone fireplace with an insert. Laundry is located in the guest bedroom and there is also an open loft above the living room with a desk for those who need to work remotely. We have a new French country style kitchen with every cooking implement you would need and the dining room is off the kitchen in a nook overlooking our pond. The bathroom is also new with a walk-in tiled shower and the entire interior of the cabin has been recently painted which adds to it’s bright and cozy charm. Large windows on one side of the cabin face the pond and dock which are steps away from the wrap-around porch which is perfect for lounging, reading or even taking a nap! There are two kayaks to explore around the pond and a wood burning hot tub for soaking after a day of exploring the woods with the dogs. Don’t feel like cooking in the cabin? No worries, there’s an outdoors BBQ grill and griddle. The yard is not fenced, but the dogs stay close to the home with supervision. They also have trackers on their collars if they get too adventurous. The town of Alpena, Michigan is about a 35 minute drive north and has grocery stores, restaurants and a Starbucks! There is a small airport in Alpena, or the others are Flint, 2.5 hours away or Detroit which is the biggest and is 3.5 hours away. You will need to rent a car if flying in since there is no public transportation.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Our home is a cabin in the woods and there is all sorts of wildlife around. If you love quite secluded woods, this is the place for you.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.
