About this assignment

I need a conscientious, dog lover to care for my sweet mellow Daisy. I prefer someone who'll be home most of the time, but of course, within reason. Maturity, experience with dogs a must. Someone who keeps a clean home and body. No smoking of any kind, no vaping, no drugs.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

2 daily dog walks of 30 minutes or more, loving attention, fresh food and water daily, brushing at least every other day. Regular poop pick up, putting the trash out on the street once a week, bringing the trash bins back to their place in a timely manner. There are a few house plants to water. Daisy is 11 and healthy, btw.

My little house is about 1000 sq ft. I would make sure it's clean for the sitter(s) and would want it to be as clean for my return. This is a rented house, and my landlords will want to have a communication with you so that they feel their property is safe in your hands, so good references would be helpful.

when you are leaving the house, always make sure Daisy has had a chance to do her business before you leave. Always do the same before you go to bed, and first thing in the morning as well. We have a back yard which is good enough for the first potty of the morning. she is never left outside more than 5-10 minutes. She's a house dog.

Sitters should take good care of the house, furnishings, etc.

What are the good features of the property and location

Ashland Oregon is a beautiful little town in southern Oregon, with a university, a wonderful Shakespeare Festival, music, restaurants, and a gorgeous park running through town (Lithia Park), with trails, pickleball courts, wild life, and majestic trees. In 2025 the Shakespeare Festival begins in May and ends October 26th. There is an International Airport a 22 minute drive away in Medford, Or.

The house has 2 tiny bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. One has a shower and one has a claw foot tub and no shower. There is a fenced back yard with a picnic table and a glorious huge walnut tree. You can walk to almost everything in Ashland from the house, which is located in the old town center in the neighborhood called the railroad district.

You can walk to all the theaters, symphony, library, university, and the whole town center with all the lovely shops, coffee houses, Food Coop. Most everything is within 6 blocks, including Lithia Park. These are not City type blocks, much shorter.

If flying, I can pick you up if you arrive before dark, and I can take you back to the airport during daylight hours also. I don't see well enough to feel comfortable driving at night. If you have a good driving record and auto insurance, I may well let you use my 2012 Honda CRV while you are here. You could then provide me with airport transportation as well.

The house has lots of natural light, is well insulated, and has a great central heater/air conditioner. The gas range is brand new, there's a microwave oven and a dishwasher and a laundry room with washer and dryer.

Daisy is not allowed on the furniture and has a deluxe bed of her own in the living room. If a bedroom door is left open while people are out, however...she gets on the bed!
There is very limited closet space!

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

IMPORTANT: Daisy can be very rude to other dogs when on leash. The sitter must be aware of other animals, and shorten the leash, and hold tight if you see you must pass another dog. You must be strong enough to control a 50 lb dog. She is very well leash trained and does not pull, it's just when another dog is near that one has to be aware and in control. Also, if you see deer in the neighborhood, you must walk the other way! Daisy always pretends not to see them, but the deer can be aggressive towards dogs!
I love my sweet dog and want someone who is gentle and loving with her. No harshness. She always tries to please and does not eat from the table, nor does she get hit ever. I want to keep her not eating people food, and having kind care. I lived in San Miguel de Allende for over 18 years, and had lots of great sitters from MMH, but I moved back to the US in August and lost all my old testimonials while the listing was expired.
