We are looking for preferably a couple to care for our 2 rescue hounds and homestead. One of our girls is young and full of energy. The other is middle aged but has been with us less than a month and is apparently enjoying her puppy stage. We are flexible with start and end dates. This would be a wonderful opportunity for someone who aspires to the farm/homestead lifestyle. The ability to adapt and improvise is exercised regularly here. A love of the sun and heat is a big plus.
Working 1 acre homestead needs pets, small livestock and gardens cared for. Hand watering and animals take 1 to 2 hrs daily. We have irrigation for the food forest and some gardens. We normally mow paths in the yard and leave much unmowed for the wildflowers and pollinators. Do as much or little lawn care as you desire.
We are approximately 6 miles from the river and 10 from the coast. Our area has had 3 hurricanes in the last 2 years. There is plenty of volunteer work needed for people who were impacted by the storm surge if you have any building skills. Scalloping is very popular in the summer. We have numerous springs and thousands of acres of state wildlife management in the area. Boat ramps and charter fishing readily available. We have fiber optic internet.
Our small town has several local restaurants but no grocery. You will need to drive 30 miles to a large chain grocery. There are health clinics in town but it is an hour and 15 minutes to a large hospital or most shopping.
Our nearest neighbors are almost a mile away but as we are located on a highway. Quiet is lacking outdoors in the yard. Our home is comfortable with central air and a walk in shower but it is a work in progress. The new hickory flooring is stacked behind to couch in the living room and the dogs occasionally dig holes in the current sheet vinyl.
