About this assignment

No pets to look after but a recently established indigenous garden to care for! We also need someone to keep an eye on some potential building work which will be happening at the back of the house, the living area will not be affected by this. This may not happen until September.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Watering the garden and pots when necessary, some pool maintenance (but will be minimal) and general caretaking of this lovely old house. For example check for any overflowing gutters etc..

What are the good features of the property and location

Kommetjie is a beautifully situated, seaside village with a thriving community and fabulous long beaches. It's well known as a great surf or kite surfing spot. There's a running club and a mobile sauna as well as many yoga and pilates classes available. The house is very close to the beach and some quick walks, there are many longer hikes close by. There are several great spots within the house to work from and a well equipped, if slightly dated, kitchen.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

The house is old and unheated, there is a fire in the sitting room and a portable gas heater. Winter days can be gloriously still and sunny but nights can get a little cold, although never freezing. Please check the local climate for more information. Kommetjie has good local shops but limited public transport. If the building work has started it will be at the back of the house and may be noisy on working days. The building company will be responsible for checking everything is locked away and secure at the end of each day but we need you to be keeping the house looking lived in.
