We are looking for a responsible loving sitters for our two Chesapeake Bay retrievers Raki and Manos. Both are very friendly and will enjoy your love.
Other than for pet care, we have a few plants that may need attention and there may be some snowblowing or shovelling to do in the winter. In summer the lawn may need cutting and the few flower beds we have, tending.
We have been members of MIndmyhouse for several years and have had many wonderful experiences with house sitters. It is our hope that we find sitters or a sitter who would be interested in returning, as we intend to travel a few times a year. On the other hand, we enjoy meeting new people and will certainly consider a one time stay.
Our dogs need two walks a day and in between can spend most of the day outdoors in our fenced in backyard, weather permitting. They have been to obedience classes and are calm gentle dogs. Indoors they are exceptionally quiet. It is best if there are two people to walk them, or one person who is used to walking two large dogs at the same time.
We recently moved from Ontario to Sydney and even though we lived in a very friendly small community; we have never experienced friendliness and service like we get in Cape Breton (the island on which Sydney is located). Almost everyone will give you a cheerful greeting. Drivers are exceptionally curtious. Clerks in stores take their time with you. People here are always positive.
In Cape Breton music abounds. There are more fiddlers per capita than anywhere else in the world. There is a rich culture of not just music.
In less than half an hour's drive is historic Fortress Louisburg, where the daily lives of its inhabitants are acted out.
The ferry to Newfoundland is located very nearby in North Sydney. If you are coming from very far away you might want to head to Newfoundland after your stay here.
Cape Breton is very beautiful. In the summer, it is known for its world class golf courses, hiking trails, waterfalls and the Cabot Trail. In winter, there is skiing, snowshoeing and hiking.
We back onto a smal wooded area with a stream but are in the heart of the city and the neighbourhood is very quiet. If you are a walker you can get by foot to downtown Sydney or walk to Sydney River from here.
There are several very nice walking trails within the municipality and a boardwalk downtown that leads to the world's largest fiddle.
Because we usually go away for only a few weeks at a time, we offer accomodation in our home for a few days before and after our trips. The extra time gives us a chance to show you around and get to know the dogs before we travel. After we get back it allows you extra time to do things that you maynot have been able to do while taking care of the dogs.
Too some Cape Breton is remote but everything you need is available in Sydney.
Weather here can be a challenge. Like any maritime location storms can be severe but most of the time weather is quite amiable.
The house is not yet as we would like it but it is warm, clean and comfortable. The basement is an ongoing project.
Yes
Restrictions: The option of a sitter bringing their dog is something we will consider.
